Proffesional Glest Modding
« on: 11 August 2007, 21:37:21 »
Hello!
I think its about time i start doing somthing with glest again, just for a little fun. But what i think glest misses are proper mods. Ive got to say all the mods so far for glest just dont have the same standard as glest did. Now no offence to anyone, we all did as good as we could on our own.

But i want to change that. We need to group together and begin work on a mod with a good standard. I think that if we work together, theres no reason we cant acomplish this.

Now i cant think of anyone that can not have a role in the development of this mod. If you can model or code it doesnt matter there are still PR and Testers needed.

Id be happy to work as lead artist. Now i had a good idea of what i would like other people to work on, but its there own choice.

One thing i have to say is that im not expecting full time modding from anyone. I have a mod myself to work fulltime on. But during those times where your not too sure what to do, why not help the mod?

Now ive got a few ideas such as a War Of The Worlds kinda idea. Ive already got a friend to help out with concepts to get us artists started.

So who wants to help?

I think this is a great idea! I have tried making different mods, but I have always had problems that one person just can't solve. Testers are a must, and artists for textures, icons etc. play a much bigger role than I would have imagined before attempting it on my own. I think that with Glest being free and with free tools such as Blender and The Gimp, anyone can participate in modding.

I also agree that it's a good idea, but i think the thing about high 'standart' (like glest-original) can only be reached by practise. I only want to say: Don't worry if the moddels etc. don't look like you can imagine, every 'bad' try will make you better.
I also can give you a hint how you could manage the process to develop the mod: We from the Viking(Norse)-team have a made a wikia-entry and everyone can post which modell of the techtree he wants to do/ has finished etc. OK, we are still only titi and me working on it, but it is a good thing as you can see the current development status.
Wikia is free for everyone, you can register there like here in order to write new topics or you can do it WITHOUT, but this did't work properly for me...

Hmm. Sorry Myles if you feel offensed by my words, didn't mean to.
OK, i'm not very good at english, so i might have misunderstood you.
I only wanted to express my experiences towards modding and regarding your SST:DL mod i have no advices for you, since your skills are better than mine.

So, to topic: Do you have a forum or somthing else? I would like to have a try on new modells, but i can only focus on one unit and need time for it, so we better check what is needed and done by whome.
I don't like MSN but email is ok, althought i think its too slow and complicated.
