Edixitos Server Problem
« on: 1 July 2004, 15:40:49 »
If you try to get the game from the first server in the list, you will be given an error message. I have received a letter from my webmaster (who provided us the hosting for the file) explaining the cause for this: we are receiving over 60000 requests per hour from an unknown machine. All this requests are made directly to the URL, they don´t pass through the web. We deleted the files from the server, but the requests keep up coming, so the service is still cancelled.

We are working to solve this issue. In the meantime you can still get the game from the other two servers.

Wouldn't that mean that someone is linking directly to the file instead of linking to www.glest.org If that is the case then you can get a program to log their IP address, then just find a way to block it or something.

When you say "requests" I assume you mean requests to download. Still, you should be able to log their IP address.

My webmaster didn´t specify more but I think that too. It´s like if someone was constantly clicking on the link, then cancelling and so on...  He´s already trying to find what´s behind this, I didn´t ask him how but very likely by finding the ip as you say.

You know how you deleted the file but the requests keep coming? That means that he is not linking directly to the file, he may be linking directly to the LINK. Try renaming the link slightly so his link wont work.

To tell you the truth, he is. Hosted in the same server my webmaster has five more clients, and because of this he can´t give service to any of them.  :-X

Well I don't see any problems with the website (except when it was down for a few minutes last night. Or was that just my computer?)

The website is hosted in a different place. For bandwith reasons, we hosted just the exe file in the edixitos´ server. But some of the other clients had their sites hosted there, and those are now down. So this is making damage both directly and indirectly.

I don't see why it would be hard if it's only coming from one person. Just block the IP address.
