The editor
« on: 16 July 2004, 08:41:19 »
I admit i kind of forgot about glest and stopped working on the editor for some time now, a week or so ago i saw glest at gamershell and remmembered that i never finished the editor, i have it already done but its too buggy to use so i rebuilt everything 100% without bugs(you can be sure of that) and redesigned it to be script based so that it won't require too much work, i used some programming shortcuts but it doesnt harm it.
i will prabobly have a working demo of it able to edit language files by tommorow.
it isn't much of a difference editing the xml files except for properties that their ammount isnt predefined so i need to create an additional class and do some work but it wont take too long.
the program has an mdi interface, since microsoft love to do tons of useless work they made alot of useless help files so it took me hours to locate help for a simple and basic commands and for some reason VB.NET looks more complicated than C++....
the interface is similiar to word, every file you edit separately in a different window , the interface for creating factions, tech trees etc will come later and will simple be a windows control tree at the back with which you organize the files.
by the way - I read all of the spanish posts using google translation..

Hm...cool. Very cool indeed. However, I was able to create an entire faction in 2 days, without the editor, with the XML so easy to do. An editor wouldn't cut that time down any farther, expect if it had help on what each XML command does.

Still, many other people are not as talented as me, and cheer for your effort. I am sure now that people will be contrubiting more to Glest in the near future.

What I am awaiting is for a mission creator/campagin editor, but that won't come out until 1.0 or maybe even later, or even never, but it doesn't hurt to hope.

mission editor????
the game already HAS a map editor.
i think the editor does cut down the time because of the interface, you dont have to learn nothing, its easier to use, you know that it isnt another buggy microsoft tool and its easier to manage everything.
iam waiting for martinho to implement campaigns, then the editor will really be useful.
and stop bragging, most ppl are too lame, it has nothing to do with talent but with comfort and the time it takes to learn.
for example - everyone can learn vb, although it sucks if you want to create complex programs its just that no one wants to.
