Glest 3.0.0-beta 3 released
« on: 21 January 2008, 23:13:12 »
Hi,

I've uploaded beta 3, this version adds a couple of bug fixed and a new checksum feature: the game checks that everybody has exactly the same data before starting the game so it won't get out of sync.

All players have to be using the same version of the game and have exactly the same map, tileset and tech tree. This means that if you have mods installed in the tech tree that is being used for the game, every player has to have the same mods. An option if you want to install mods over the magitech tech tree and be able to play people that don't have them, is to copy it and install the mods over the copy.

I've updated the beta thread with the right download links:

Uuh this checksum thing is very restrictive!  It's OK for a beta to find bugs.
But I hope there is a way for future releases to check only the used parts of the game like used map/ used tileset/used tech or if it will be possible: used factions. Otherwise this behaviour will kill all mods!

To check only used things, it is probably a good idea to move the things from magitech.xml into the factions description. Same with the ressources dir.

Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

Hi,

Only the used map, tileset and tech tree are checked!

About the used factions this would require a bit of work so the game only loads the factions the players have chosen, but i might do it.

Is it possible to debug the camera for linux users. I know this has been mentioned in the past, but i *think* most Glest programmers are on windows, (at least from what I've been reading in the forums) so I'm reminding you all just in case you forgot.

Basically the bug is that whenever you enter into free camera mode using the A & D keys to look around,  well the camera keeps spinning even when you release the key. So it's useless until it gets fixed.

I'm no programmer, but I would think this wouldn't be a huge bug to fix during the beta cycle of v3.

Thanks!
