SST:LD Mod - v2.1
« on: 27 January 2008, 19:45:47 »
Hello! It has been a year since the SST:LD glest mod started and to celibrate the anniversary we have released SST:LD 2.1 as a standalone release. This includes multiplayer and a standalone release for Mac machines and a base release for Linux users and Glest players who dont want to have 2 copies of Glest. We also have a review and a few gaming tips.

Special thanks to Titus Tscharntke who made the base files and to jak for the mac port. The mac port is only version 2 so it does not include multiplayer. Read the details for the mac port as you will need to install a framwork. I hope you enjoy the new release!

Sst:ld is pretty cool.

I thought i would post some random key words so that people searching the forums would find this (i didn't know it was a tech tree until recently)

This is a set of 2 factions for glest, fully download / playable.

Hey i remember that a trooper can shoot out a bug warrior very quick.

Heres tip how about making the troopers building slow but they are strong.
And the aliens can massive attack but are weak in little numbers

this is a great mod, but the AI has trouble with humans.

Hope it's alright to revive this topic, but great work ;D This is the best treetech for Glest I could find after magitech. All units and buildings are very good looking which is the first thing I liked about it.

Anyway, I was curious if development is still going on and if there's any plans for a new version. If I may make a bunch of suggestions as well: I think more buildings and units for both factions would be a great thing. One resource is too little in my opinion... I'd suggest turning the Stone resource into Metal and having both used. Something I believe would be very important are team colored areas on all buildings and units, so you can see which team they're from without checking the minimap. Also the human faction has units which look too much alike (I can hardly tell the Worker from the Trooper and Machinegun Tank from Rocket Tank).

I also noticed an issue that happens with the Glest Advanced Engine. If trying to play the treetech under the GAE in SVN, the new Gold resources are depleted immediately after pickup and only offer 1 gold, making playing impossible. Doesn't happen under Glest 3.2.2 so it's a GAE compatibility issue... maybe on GAE's end?

I think it's funny how all the posts say that they were last edited on Dec 31st, 1969!

Shouldn't we be planning a 40th anniversary celebration or something?  :o

Sorry about that... seen a lot of talk about this mod and thought it wouldn't hurt to post about it. Sad to hear it's dead, maybe someone will continue it again someday. The models at least are really great, and can be nicely reused :)

Yeah, SST really has bad animations, good statics, good textures, and bad XMLs.  I am critical of this because I grew up playing magitech mostly.  Also, the factions are more minifactions, so I would like them to be made with some new LUA scenarios, like 'first colonization', 'alien encounter', and either a final battle that would favor the colonists, or a last defense scenario where you face 3 cpu ultras.

Yeah, I brought that up a while ago, but it still is funny.  Is there some reason why that would happen?  I don't care, but it makes no sense.

Why don't the GLADE and GMD teams patch this up, and add units after we're done with our competition.

January 01, 1970 is the start of UNIX time, which the forums uses. I assume all time is stored as unix time, which is time after this date. Hence, if the forum has a data loss, the times would default to January 01, 1970.

If you want to know more, go here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_time

Here also shows why all machines will eventually have to be 64 bit:

Hope I satisfied your curiosity  ;).

Well, I'm glad that most of my computers are 64-bit, my mom's the only one that isn't, and that's her computer.........
Besides 64-bit, it just flat out better than 32-bit.

Well, yeah, but I don't need to run stuff really fast so I'm fine with my 2ghz 32bit computer for now...
