Multiplayer Arrangement Idea

I was just thinking. Instead of using the IRC, why don't we all use AIM? I suggest using AIM because:

1) It's free

2) Easier communication compared to the IRC. In the IRC, there are times when 5 conversations are going on. It would be nice to talk to someone or a group of people without hearing someone else's conversation at the same time. AIM supports that.

3) In AIM, an active user is aware when another user is inactive. I get mad when I log on to the irc and I see about 12 people, but none of them are actually doing anything.

The only disadvantage I could think of is that glest users will have to exchange they're addresses on the board since one requires a person's address/user name in order to contact that person.

AIM is not free. Maybe free to use, but you need to register at AOL.
There is no official support than for Windows and Mac OS X. You are able to use it with other tools on  Linux etc., but that is officially forbidden.
If a user is inactive you can tell this also in IRC(manually or with special scripts). This is not default, but the default way it works in AIM(ICQ, Skype etc.) is very unreliable, too.

And btw. why AIM, not yahoomessenger, windowsmessenger, skype?

Why not XFIRE ?We can create a "clan" actually a clan with a community roll...you all join it.In our friend list there will be a group called "Glest (for example" and we'll see who's on and OFF  , from those who joined.We can speak on private or invite the whole group to a chat room or invidualy.I met a guy from Canada , but we couldn't play together for some reason.It was just saying connecting.

Only a windows client is supported by their developers although there is a third party plugin for Pidgin called Gfire.

There is also a jabba client setup for games called GOIM. The benefits here are it runs on Windows and Linux and is also open source.

If goim were easier to add games for, and/or there were more users I'd use it.  As for now, it seems IRC and XFire.  Has an Xfire clan been made yet?
