very cool idea :) but I think will be better wait to expand a bit our community of online players, moreover we have to make two leagues, one for windows and another one for linux

yes yes, but please, one step after another!
A handmade leage ( in the forums for example) should be possible. For all other things we will need a masterserver with some more features ( and these will be the last step even if we have a masterserver one day)

But I would prefer to see more players first.
I don't know why there are so little players :( its such a nice game!
I think for the usual player it must be very simple to start gaming and he must quickly see first successes.

This player issue can hopefully be fixed by:
- an easier start for glest newbies. For beginners the CPU is way too strong. This could probably be done by adding a random decision before the command execution of the CPU players. So bad CPUs will simply not execute their commands very often ( or execute them later when they get the command again. ).

- linux/windows/binary compatibility ( but I think it's really not easy but who knows....)

- a more simple setup of multiplayergames( showing the current serversetup /pingtimes/users/available techs/maps/tilesets and things like this )

- and a masterserver of course ( a first very simple solution would be a webserver with php support to pulish open games which are published(by the servers) and shown ( by the clients ) in the game)

Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

I really don't think that a master sever would be of much help if we don't have a big community, because the number of games available wouldn't be very high. I think what we really need is promotion now. If anybody has any ideas on how to further promote Glest tell us!

But thats makes no sense, you can't wait for more people to play your game to make a vital improvement, even if it is a uber-popular game, if theres not half decent way to set up a game, the community wont grow at all.

I think there needs to be a detailed manual. OpenTTD can be used as an example.

Also I think there is already a large community for Glest there is just not the resources to move it forward which is why enveloop was developing the community website.

Something I noticed was that at a lot of listing websites where Glest could have been mentioned but it wasn't.

Perhaps some smaller features to polish the game, such as being able to command units using the map.

Bos Wars seems to be setup appropriately for an open source project.

People work on assumptions. If you want a large community cater towards an ever increasing size. If you develop aiming at a small community it will stifle growth in favour of... a small community. And make it easy for users. Things will naturally follow on.

there is a syncronisation problem with network play, that currently can only be solved by using same binaries, ones there is a better solution there won't be need for system relevant leagues.

@Martino: I don't remember exactly what websites but there were some free software or linux software lists in wikis from what I remember (it was a while ago). I added a link to Glest but I'm not sure if it's still there. There are also gaming distributions, one of them has Glest but another doesn't, I'm not sure. http://supergamer.org/ doesn't have Glest on it.
