Where to start modding?

Hi folks big fan of Glest,
I model in 3DS max and have the .g3d plugin, hypothetically if i wanted to build a new faction where would i start? how do I make models work with glest etc etc?

I think the best way to start is to take a look at the Wiki, some information there is a bit outdated, but it is a good starting point, then you can ask in the board.
