A bunch of odd suggestions

...I suppose I need say no more concerning what I'm going to say, except that they will range widely throughout Glest.

1. Worker/Initiate things

a. It would be really nice, to say the least, if we didn't have to build a building from the top left corner. Just run towards the center of the building, and start building as soon as the unit touches it.

b. If you have several units selected, and you tell them to build something, they should ALL do it.

c. I don't know how realistic this is, but when you assign Workers/Initiates to any resource, perhaps even buildings, they would evenly spread out, and attempt to get as close as possible to both the resource and the Castle/Mage Tower before starting gathering. Once again, (I think) I realize how complicated this might be.


2. A few bugs

a. When you are setting a gathering point or creating a building, they often (especially when you have more Workers/Initiates (not necessarily being used for that specific building)) disappear, leading to near infinite frusteration. *throws computer across room*


I guess that's all I can think of now. I hope more than half of them are half realistic. More later, likely. Thanks!

On a & b, I'm actually working on this on the glest advanced engine mod.  For c, I have found that they eventually do find the shortest route after fiddling around for a bit (if I'm understating you  correctly). But I don't understand the bug you are talking about, can you please elaborate?

UI of Glest can be better.

Daniel: what do you think about semi-transparent dropdown menu over unit that somehow activates with mouse and give you access to all commands for unit.

And please check my post about Campaigns, if you're not planning to make it, I would like to try.

On C? Well, yes, while it's true that they do EVENTUALLY find it, wouldn't it be nice if they found the best right away? I think I might be stretching this a tad, but there's a bug when you create a building that when you assign many Workers/Initiates to the building, they can't all find a place, even though there happen to be a few left that they ought to be able to get into.

*edit* One more thing. When you're in Free Camera mode, you can't do a wide array of things, just because of free camera. Why couldn't the keys that aren't used for free camera mode be usable anytime?

... about camera movement its strange for me also...

why not leave it enabled always... ?

also:
in UFO:AI there is option to press V while unit is selected to switch camera to look from unit's point of view, it's great feature...

And, if realistic (in other words, with people walking on them)boats are put in Glest, there also should be a boat battle mode that zooms out a ton, so that you can move the boats more easily. ;)

Yeah, and the only way to prevent it is to build everything in pause mode. I IS rather cool to have all of your Workers/Initiates zoom off and do tons of things, but, hey, it's a bug!!!
