Glest 3.1.2 Released
« on: 5 March 2008, 20:03:56 »
Hello,

We've just released Glest 3.1.2, this version contains a few critical fixes, that should improve the game experience.

Features

The main fix if the one for slow building placement in post 7.9 Catalyst drivers, also in this version the game won't let you start a multiplayer game with different binaries (you can disable this in glest.ini, with NetworkConsistencyChecks=0, but do it at your own risk).

The full list:

- Fixed slow building placement in ATI cards with catalyst 7.10 or newer
- Fixed fog of war smoothing
- Improved position picking when giving orders
- Fixed some glitches in shadows
- Added red colored building cursor when trying to build in an invalid location
- Fix for empty chat messages
- Reduced Drake Rider morphing time from 120 to 80 and reduced splash radius attack of a few units
- Improved battlemachine death animation
- The game now checks that all players are using the same binaries

How to get it

Windows: download the installer.
Linux: Download binaries and data. Source code also available (but we recommend the official binaries, thanks to titus for compliling them).

The best way to arrange multiplayer games is the #glest  irc channel at irc.freenode.net. You can also use AF lobby.

Please give us your feedback.

Hi! great thing!
I played with snowflake and it went really fine on windows glest 3.1.2.

I have problems with linux glest 3.1.2 because units move to topleft mapcorner if i command them. Only if movetarget is another unit they move there.

But especially shadow and battle_machine death are just great!!

I recognized that the menu slows down when you connect to host but game comes to full speed if it starts, no lag just fine (ok, only if family doesnt blow internet... ;) ).

This might be because of the zbuffer precision, you can try changing DepthBits=16 by 24 or 32 in glest.ini

Hi martino
on my linux sidux (i found out that it is more debian base than on ubuntu) i cannot fix the problem yet but on every other distribution i tested it works fine. So there is some mess with my libraries, nothing for your game.

On the other hand i managed now to play fine even over windows. I don't know what made the different but it is very smooth now. And another thing: It was confusing at first that the game slows so much down when connecting because he searches the game on host. But ingame everything is fine, so you cannot tell if connection is slow just because connectionmenu appears slow ( ? ;) ...)

Thanks again for this great game

Omg I peed my pants alittle when I read that. I had to go change and come back but after I read it again I had to change yet again.

Ubunutu is not based on Debian, It's not even a clone of Debian. It is Debian stolen and renamed. There is no credit given but it is the Unstable Debian but all packages have the ubuntu name written on them. That's legal steeling since Debian in open source. But it's till very shitting. But I look at it as just another african scam. Like the ones you get in the emails that say they need to send money to your account. What does Ubuntu mean again. Stolen from the People in african, something like that.

Great Job on 3.1.2 I love how you made it work with ATI. And love seeing the dev moving so fast.

Very interesting game. I'm quite surprised I can run it on a P3 running an upgraded installation of Win98... Rather interesting if I do say so myself. Trying to learn XML in order to code, as well as looking up g3d's and Blender software; hope to find good tools, as well as use this forum to excel the creation process!
