GAE and glest wiki
« on: 22 April 2008, 14:18:35 »
Is anyone up to date about the GAE and willing to fill the wiki with some stuff? ( https://docs.megaglest.org )

Something like features, downloads(windows/linux/src)?

( I don't have the time at the moment and my private internet access is down :(  )

titi,
what specific pages are you referring to?  I think that the one with the XML specification for gae, Effect & upgrades, should be renamed to "Glest Advanced Engine" and have the existing name be made a redirect to it as well as "GAE".  I suppose this is part I shouldn't ignore.  I didn't even realize that there were XML definitions on the wiki!  But I need to update the XML specs for GAE.

I also saw this xml-specifications in the wiki, but I wasn't shure if this was
GAE!  If it is, it would be nice if someone brings it up to date and renames it
 to GAE ( you ? :) )
Someone inserts a new entry "About GAE" in the wikis startpage, but there is
no content in it.  It would be nice if this can be filled too. ( probably including
something like download links, screenshots link to the xml-description ...)

I would like to start documenting the new XML tags that are available via GAE  but I need to get a full list of changes from Daniel first.

I added a simple wiki entry linking the things which are already in the wiki and to the forums thread. If anyone has time please add some more info/screenshots/downloadlinks ....

What would you guys think of marking up the existing XML specification for Glest with the GAE stuff, and having some type of marking that clearly indicates when something is a part of GAE?  I'm thinking similar to the POSIX specification, where extensions are marked as such.

If you think that will be better, go for it. I'm not sure how it will help though especially if it is going to be integrated back into the original later.

Well, intergration still isn't 100% certain and it's good for mod creators to know what they can use where.  Some mod creators may want to make sure that theirs runs well on either Glest or GAE, whereas others may only care about one or the other.  An integrated specification can solve all of these ends.

I think this marking is a really good idea but only if its not too complicated.
If you once will have mandatory entries in the xml-files for the gae binary you will shure get in trouble! But if it is possible at the moment and  can be done simply by adding for example a prefix ( "gae" is a good one :) ), I think it will be a good idea!
