I've been trying to beat the CPU (Ultra) when its using Magic and I am Tech, when its in the top left and I am in bottom left, and there are 2 other CPU in tech or magic in the right hand positions.

However I don't seem to be able to harvest anywhere near as much as it can, nor am able to develop the same level of melee troups to protect myself.

I was wondering is there any way to just watch a battle as an observer to see how the tech ultra builds up?

well ultra harvesters work three times quicker thean usual ones, otherwise it builds the same as a usual cpu.
if you want to watch it just start a new game with the cpu in the same team as you.

Oh, now I get it. I was thinking that the CPU ultra was just able to collect more resources due to its "efficiency" of assigning tasks to workers, but they can actually collect more quickly. (ie more resources per minute than the normals)

Yeah, this is how almost all RTS games have increased the difficulty setting since the genre was born. Most only have one set of AI but just allow it to build cheaper troops or collect resources faster.

There is no observer feature that I'm aware of. I have thought about adding it though.

You can take yourself off of the player list and watch the ai play. Or else just kill yourself in a game with two players (not counting you)in it.

Is this a new feature? My version of GAE doesn't let me do this.

*raises eyebrows* Huh. That's wierd. I don't remember how I did it, then. You could be allies with somebody and not do anything and watch them fight.
