Armies of the Old World mod
« on: 7 May 2008, 09:21:13 »
I am in no way affiliated with Games-workshop- this is unofficial. Any names changed from the original version of Glest to Warhammer Fantasy names belong to Game's Workshop.

Greetings commanders and tacticians. We have need of your skills in the campaign that awaits you.

Strap on your sword, steel your heart, pray to Sigmar for deliverance, and ride to war with the Armies of the Old World!

This mod is based on Games-workshop's universe, and currently features four races- the Elves of Ulthuan and Lorien, the Empire,  the Armies of the Chaos Wastes, and Bretonnia.

For those not familiar with Warhammer, allow me to summarize the races:

EMPIRE:
A massive nation that sprawls across the Old World, The Empire enlists its brave warriors to repel the invaders of Chaos in the name of Sigmar. With highly trained infantry and state of the art technology, the thirteen states of the Empire are a steadfast opponent against evil from within and without. With their strong Kislevite allies to the north and their staunch Dwarven friends in the mountains of the Old World, the Empire is one of the most powerful forces in the Warhammer world.

HIGH ELVES:
Disciplined levies of ithilmar-clad high elven soldiers stand guard against the constant threat of chaos. The sons of Ulthuan and masters of magic, the High Elves are brave soldiers and loyal friends. From their mystical Isle they strike- quickly and lethally.
WOOD ELVES:
Stubborn elves who refused to abandon their homes after the War of the Beard, the Wood Elves defend their magical forest with the skill and tenacity of the beasts that they befriend. Skilled with a bow and lightening-fast warriors, they are enemies of all who threaten their sacred home.

CHAOS:
Twisted worshippers of Chaos from the frozen wastes, these barbaric warriors descend on the Old World in search of blood, power, and slaughter for their gods. A force to be reckoned with, they bring their corruption with them wherever they go.

BRETONNIA:
Staunch followers of the Lady of the Lake, the Bretonnians are an old monarchy of chivalric knights and loyal peasants. Following a strict code of morals, these brave fighters are to be counted on in any fight against evil.

These are the current races at the moment. Soon, once I master the art of importing models :), you will be able to take to the field with hordes of orcs, swarms of skaven, and far more.

Don't be frightened by the fact that no new models are included- this mod features many graphical changes nonethless.
It is best used with the GlestAdvancedEngine.

I'd like to thank the entire forum for the extremely helpful guides, and the developers for such an amazing game.

This is my first mod for Glest, and I started work on it a couple days ago. Progress was quite swift.

Now, to the fun part:

Good luck, and thanks for trying my mod.

FUTURE VERSIONS could include (suggestions appreciated):
-Custom Scenarios
-Bretonnians
-Dark Elves
-Orcs and Goblins
-Dwarves
-Skaven
-Bug fixes
-Standalone (custom menus..etc)
-Any suggestions

Update:
I've been working on this for a couple hours now, and have made some good progress. Chaos now has an Undived Warrior, marauder's have refined textures, and certain other changes have been made. I won't post it as an update as i'm waiting till I have more content to add.

I'd as games workshop before you continue with this, they're quite strict when it comes to copyright. ;)

Actually, they say very clearly what you can and can't do. Everything here is fine. You can use anything as long as you give credit to Games-workshop and don't use this commerically.

Anyway, I regret to inform you that the Bretonnian option is being taken off the poll. Yes, unfortunately, I've already finished them  :)

I'll upload the new version ASAP, but be patient has the DL link will be down for a couple of minutes.

What about the Vampires, or Undeads or whatever (I used to play the hungarian version...)?

Those will most likely be included. I have a soft spot for the undead- used to smashing them to pieces in Warhammer Fantasy Battles.

Races are quite easy to make now that the foundation is on. I aim to include most of the original races (probably not beastmen, ogre kingdoms..)

...And a new picture of some Bretonnian peasants:

I won't be on for around 15 hours, so please post any bugs or problems with the mod.
About violating Games-workshop IP, I can assure you it is within their limits. Still, if any moderators want me to take this down I'll be more than happy to comply.

I hope the community enjoys this as much as I've enjoyed what it's given me  :)

Then I must hurry-scurry :)

I'm also going to be working on some maps. I'm experimenting with walls by making them a custom resource. That could allow for actual cities..etc.

Hmm.. That sounds pretty interesting, as I'm trying to create a more city-like feeling for my future mod (or even a stond-alone game). Let us know how that works out.

Hey well good luck with it.

I've found some balancing issues in the current game, but nothing too drastic. I'm pretty sure Chaos has mediocre AI, must have to do with workers. I'll fix that later.
