Mouse speed decreased when changing resolution
« on: 18 May 2008, 19:04:26 »
Hi, I installed Glest 3.1.2 on Arch Linux. It runs very smoothly with GeForce 7300GT and drivers 173.08. However, if I change the resolution in my glest.ini file to 1280x1024 (my native screen resolution and game looks much better), mouse movements in menu and game are slow, too slow for fully enjoing the gameplay. If I set resolution to 1024x768, it's better, and with 800x600 it's perfect.

How do I increase mouse speed in the game?

The game doesn't have a control for that. You'll just have to change it in the control panel.

As far as I know, it depends on your mouse's dpi (dot per inch). If your mouse has higher resolution, then it moves easier on larger monitors.

For example, your mouse has 1 dpi. you have a 10x10 monitor. If you move your mouse 1 inch down, on the monitor the coursor will move down one pixel (what is pathetic...  8) ). But if you change the resulution to 20x20, it will still move down one pixel. That's why it looks slower for you, even the speed is the same.

at same resolution your mouse should have same spped in game and desktop.
In that case just adjust your mouse in system properties.

If it is slower it might be that your pc is underpowered for high resolution games.

I have Pentium DualCore 1,6 GHz, GF 7300GT and 2 GB of RAM. Other games work perfect at 1280x1024. Maybe it's just distribution specific problem... because I don't see others complaining about that.

Anyway, it would be useful for RTS game, where mouse movements must be precise, to add an option for adjust the mouse speed. Is it hard to implement? Just out of curiosity because I'm not a programmer.

Regards

EDIT: I ran the game in windowed mode at 1024x768, mouse speed is same as in desktop, but I see two cursors at once, one from my system and one from the game :O

You`d better to check the device setting first.

What device setting? There's no setting for mouse in Glest and in my system everything is OK.

Again: Glest in windowed mode shows 2 cursors. Can someone on Linux confirm this?

Yes, there is a fix, just search the forum. If you go from fullscreen to windowed the mouse will be there even with the fix (from memory) but It's easy to put in for that too if your desperate to be rid of it.
