Wc3Campaigns resources
« on: 14 June 2008, 02:51:20 »
Just figured I'd make you aware of this site called Wc3Campaigns.net. It's a big modding community for Warcraft 3, and even though it's not as active as it was in the golden days of Wc3, there are still members adding to the already enormous storage of useful resources.

I'm linking you here because I think (possibly after exporting the file format) you too could be able to make use of many of these resources; models in perticular. The polycount should be similar to your default, and I believe you support 3DS max no? The only thing you have to watch out for are the models that are not made from scratch, meaning, they're based off of a Blizzard model, thus owned by Blizzard.

You should have a look around and see if you for instance find packs like this one, which in this case has every resource made from scratch, completely unrelated to Blizzard; all the author asks is credits for his work, other than that it's free in every sense of the word. Should you choose to make use of any resources from this website, make sure you always read thuroughly through the thread in which the resource is posted, and it would also be considered common courtesy to contact the author before making use of his/her work.

Useful?..

Well, I've downloaded that pack and there's loads of "BLP" files.. They can be converted to TGA by a windows application called MywarcraftStudio. It works in wine, though.

OH, the textures are perfect, I can't belive they're free!

There's also MDX, I dunno what format it could be  :)

If you missed them, this is the entry:
http://wc3campaigns.net/resources.php?f=615

Anyone tried an animated model yet?
Is it possible to use the animations too?

I just read this for like the 3rd time, and I just thought of something....

What does it matter?  It's not like we are making money off of it.  Nor are the original creators of Glest.  If they take it up in court that Glest users are using WC3 characters and such, they'd lose... quickly might I add.

Hell I don't even believe that they'd be able to make a court entry.  I say use em, as long as no profit is being made from it there should be no problem.

I found it!

Here is a working download for warblender (warblender-0.2.0.zip).
This is the mdx plugin you will need to import(and export) mdx models.
I didn't tried it yet, but I have it now! What I read in the forums, the original download on blender.org didn't work for about 6 month now !?! )

Download the model (OBJ+BLEND) :x
Note 1: before including this model in some of your mods, it is necessary to ask the author for permission:
