Character voices
« on: 26 June 2008, 19:39:05 »
I was fooling around with the characters voices and such.  Actually all I did was add 2 more Die sounds to the Tech's worker.  I changed up the XML to fit it and everything , but it keeps saying there is a problem, and can't read the wavs.  I looked thru the search and found one with Bank offering his voice for the game, and wondered if the set up mentioned for quotes is the same for screams and yells.

Any help would be appreciatted, as I am still trying to learn how to do this stuff.

My AI work is kinda foiled at the moment for off reasons, but I will try again later.  I've reinstalled Glest and reinstalled the Source and got everything back to normal.  I'm just gonna work small and become better with XML first.  Heck, my above problem probably has nothing to do with XML, it might just be the sounds.

Wav can have several formats, and glest only supports some of them.
I don't which exactly but this works:

rate 22050
16 bits per sample
mono ( probably stereo too)
Codec araw

( you can use the free audacity to create/edit them
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ )

WAY ahead of ya man.  I've already had Audacity to begin with for mixing Arcade music from other games.  RYL2 was so far the most worked on.  I actually got the idea when my friend decided to see if the Microphone really did work.  and so it did.  Since last night Pacific time, we've been working on re doing all of the voices for the Worker (Sorry Tucho, I'm sure you'll get much better with time.)

Here it is if ya wanna check it out.  Our voices are pretty much the same except for mine which I lowered the pitch to give my voice a more adult feel.  My friend did most of the dialogue work, but we collectively made a good 6 dieing voices, including dialogue such as, "Tell my wife... I loved her....ahh....."

Most of the dialogue done was done in a way to show that the workers hesitantly reply to your orders, as they are not REALLY apart of your army.  They just do all the hard labor, and so act as tho you never pay them.  You'll see what I mean.  It's a file front dl cuz I don't know how to add manual attachments to the forum yet.

In my game I have everysingle one of the voices working, so there is nothing wrong with them, or at least shouldn't be.

Here it is, and enjoy. http://files.filefront.com/soundszip/;1 ... einfo.html

I don't think this is possible so the external download is fine.

The sound effects are good but the voices are muffled or sound like you are too close to the microphone or something, I'm not sure.

ah, well I'm kinda new at the whole thing, but I can try quieting it.  Audacity is pretty good for that kinda stuff.  I've already did voices almost for all of the Tech faction.  I'm sorta poud of my voice acting as I am my friends.

The voices actually don't sound to bad in game.  Didja try?  Amongst all of the hectic stuff with the ambience and sounds.  and Quieting the voices via SFX it all seems to blend really well together.

Also has anyone considered doing something about the AI's difficulty?  Try what other RTS games do, make difficulty levels.  In this case it can be done by changing the pace of the AI.  Hard mode being pretty much how it is now.

I only had time to listen in an audio player.

There is already CPU and CPU (Ultra). There is mention of how it works on the forum somewhere.
