Heros!

I think there should be a hero unit for each team. they should have physical and raged attack and only one can be out at a time for each team. they should also be stronger and have some kind of special benefit for example if this is possible leadership gives nearby units + 20% attack power.

Well, if it has Heroes, it should at least have an option to disable them. I don't think it would be good with them in a custom game. It would make it pretty much become an RPG. ::)

Well W3 has the option to start with a hero or not. Perhaps you could do something like this?

Heros be break'n our defz.

I think it'd be, well, different. If you lose the Hero, you couldn't get a new one, or, it'd be a really expensive unit to order, and would take a lengthy amount of time too. Nothing incredible, but, if a hero unit has an area effect that buffs up the surrounding units, I'd think it more fair that if a hero dies, it should take a while to get a new one.

And the ability to disable the heros completely is fine too.

It would be best if a hero was an expensive unit with a certain weakness. (ie: electricity could a be a weakness)

It could be like a giant Battle Machine. Battle Machines have both melee and ranged attacks, and I find their bodies very useful for blocking things trying to attack my archers.

Seriously, I love Battle Machines. They are so fun to send out because they first go in shooting arrows and then go into melee for enemy units. They're also good for devastating a base of initiates because the arrows would massacre them, but if they get too close they get hacked down.

first off how whould it make it an RPG?

heres what i mean with the heros.
1.they can be summoned from a castle for 3000 gold and 5 (food or energy or whatever) so youd need 2 castle to supply the gold.
2.they would offer a buff or something to nearby friendly units (example +15% power range 8 usses 5 ep a second)
3. they would take a long time to get out (about the same as the indian factions thunder bird) and when they fall would cost 2000 gold and 5 (food or energy or whatever) to bring back but would take 50% longer.
4. they would have a close range or distance attack.

and the on/off switch would be a good idea[/quote]

Thats a good idea, but for the buff, it would have to be an enemation, which would mean that it would have to be for Glest Advance. (I wanna see them put together for pete's sake!)

"Heroic Auras" are by far my most favourite part of any RTS with heroes. I dunno why, I just love the concept.

I know!
Start the game, and then Daemon rush their farms and animals and then their mage tower and then their initiates. Perfect idea!!!

I had an idea yesterday for a Magic Pack (Only 1 race: Magic) And I had the idea to put a 'Titan' in it. Which is something like a Hero.
(No it isn't a 'Age of Mythology' clone. Though the 'Titan' idea was found very near)

I think then the 'Hero Rush'-tactic will be invented.

You could make a new resource, something like "Hero's Fire" or something, put it at a 1 and make sure no buildings can produce that kind of resource. So when you make a hero that resource goes to 0 and when your hero dies it becomes 1 again.

As for making the hero cost 3000 gold? that's a bit too much, in a multiplayer game you have to constantly make units and upgrades....i doubt anyone would save up to 3000 gold unless one player is just simply way better than the other. you should make it at a 1000 gold, reachable, but not too reachable.

A hero does not make this RTS into a RPG either, it simply makes it more interesting. A WC3 clone isn't bad, the whole idea of WC3 is beyond just simply good, what's so bad about taking a few ideas from it? It's not actually a WC3 clone anyways, just simply having a few same units doesn't make it a clone. Age of the Empires has swordsmen and so does glest, does that make it a clone of Age of the Empires? The first RTS compared to the second doesn't make the second a clone either. WC3 is just like that, the first RTS with heroes, Glest can be the second without beening a clone. A hero would definetly improve the game.

MAGIC HERO:
Level 1:
2x hp as the Archmage
armor: Leather=5
Energy: 1400
attack: XXXXX
damage: 250-300
splash: 5
should start out as a pretty weak unit and increases in power as it levels, should have a few unlocked abilities as it levels (level 2: Magic Aura: Archmages damage increases by 50)
Level 2:
?????
?????
Level 3:
?????
?????
So on

Tech Hero:
Level 1:
2x hp as the knight
armor: 1.5x of knight's armor
attack: XXXXX
damage: 300-400
(Aura of the Paladin: Knight walking speed increases by 100, attack increases by 50)
Level 2:
?????
?????
Level 3:
?????
?????
So on

I think it should be free, but you only get 1 at the start of the game. Magic should get a high regeneration, low armor and HP, and powerful ranged attack. Tech should get a high armor, high HP, and a semi-powerful melee attack.

In GAE you can hide resources, so for GAE you could make the resource invisible. (You don't need to know how many heroes you can make) ;)

how about make a few copies of the hero in a folder (if its possible) and giving him a morph but name the skill buy (skill name) and he would morph to the new unit who would have the new skill
