A Chinese style mod would be awesome!

It would make a change from the usual Fantasy/Sci-Fi mods that everyone makes.

No, it should have both fantasy and real things. It shouldn't stay fantasy, or it would start getting boring.

And if you don't like a reality mod, you don't have to play it.
I must admit that I like Fantasy more than reality but I'am happy with any kind of mod (except bad mods, I hate those).

1: Cavemen/Dark Ages
2: Japanese/Chinese style
3: Futuristic
4: Modern
5: insects

I personally find your approach - what does the mass wants - not good unless you are doing it for money - and you are not - so you have free time and no ideas right?

I would like to see flying insects See Star Ship Troopers Faction was nice but the one thing left out that the movie had was fling insects. S o I would love to see a new version with 3 or 4 ground insects and 1 or 2 fling ones with a somekind of hive that would make new ones when you have enough food and matirals for other nests

i ment flying

Come to think of it, we've got European (Tech), North American (Indian), Norse (Norsemen) and soon to be Arabic (Persian), so these are my ideas:

-African/Australian tribes
-Mayan
-yeah, maybe Japanese (Yeah, samurai!)
-Eskimoes?
-Mongolians?

Suppose you try a time clash?
Such as having future vs past, or cavemen vs modern.

Maybe time machine style. (make levels that are modern and cavemen style. It might be pretty cool. (You could make a modern tileset with buildings for trees, and rather than gaining wood, you gain rubble.)

What I'm trying to say is that all factions would have their advantages and disadvantages.

Quit being a smart @$$ M, any faction can be balanced, Suppose modern has lots of fast, ranged attacks, with a few muggers or something attacking with knives, and cavemen could be more powerful, but slower attacks.

Last option, give them all the same power, but different looks. More boring and not reccomended. My point is, how balanced they are depends on the stats, even if in reality they would be unbalanced. This is a fantasy game. Things are not the same as reality. (I don't seem my neighbors casting spells at me at 2AM, do you?!?)

Think of it, my work-in-progress ancient tech tree has four factions, (hellfire, omega, twilight, and church) Omega sounds the most powerful, and has a unit called (ironically) Omega which has 5000HP, but I can STILL beat any faction with any other faction. Why is that? Because I balanced them properly!

SHEESH!

I MEAN IN TECH or magic there is a way to win with either side but to be close to what a caveman has to modern man there is no contest modern man wins everytime. and if you wanted to play magic with you having caveman you ever heard of a saying fat chance. It could not be any air units and be close to it being what they might have so if the AI was the magic faction and you caveman then 6 or 7 dragons and caveman is history

because the AI in Glest fights one way only fast attack so if you build a strong defence quick enough or do a quick attck yourself then you should win but if one faction has air units and the other not then what will you do it is the same with Star Ship Troopers mod no air units so any faction with air while attacking on the ground will win over a faction with no air units

tell you what make your caveman faction do what every you want to tweak it an eitherthere be no bases in any realaity in your faction or you would have to give there primitive weapons so much firepower that if the AI had that faction and you another it be allmost impossable ti win against them being so super up weapons

One of the problems with a future type faction is that its hard to keep it from being overpowering.  A lot of the units would have to be really expensive and hard to get.  this also makes the faction vulnerable in the beginning of the game.

Give them a high defence in the beginning. (tower, or slow-moving ranged unit)

The factions could be evened out if you're good enough at making them. The cavemen have much more powerful physical attacks, a few archers, some clubbers, and more 'evolved' cavemen that are smarter and can use flint axes and such.

While modern can have a citizen as the worker, and a few gunners, a few physical fighters, a extremely expensive, one time attack nuclear bomb (big power of about 800-1000 damage and 6 splash radius), and such. If the cave men is made faster and more powerful, then it can be balanced.

By the way, does anyone know how to make a suicide attack such as a self destruct?

I have a feeling that you're not going to have enought units to make full tech trees for these ideas.  Even if they were balenced they would have really short tech trees.

I think a faction based on southeast Asia could be pretty cool.  Spearmen in rattan armor (nearly impervious to arrows), war elephants, and rakshasas would all make excellent units in my opinion.

Aztec could also be a good one.  Heavy-hitting jaguar warriors with flint-bladed clubs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macuahuitl), ranged units flinging darts from their atlatls, and a powerful feathered serpent are all possibilities for them.

I'd personally like to see a mod that focuses on changing the gameplay, rather than the factions.
examples:

Artillery.
Every recourse comes from farms, power plants, oil rigs, etc. (so you can't run out)
Maybe some walls, or something similar
if possible, water transports/warships.

and anything else you may see fit to change
