In this topic, you can download working copies of all factions.

Finished Mods- I have shown bugs here because it is fair to rate only a finished faction.

Megapack | Megapack Discussion
By: Titi
Description: The Megapack includes the factions Indian, Norseman, and now Persian, six tilesets, and several maps and scenarios.
Verdict: This is a handy download.  It can breathe new life into a monotonous Glest game with these new features.

SST (Star Ship Troopers) | Faction Discussion | Official Website
By: Myles
Description: A totally new game very similar to Glest, but with a futuristic theme.  You can mod this game to put the both factions in Glest.
Known Bugs: The Bugs faction is too strong, and Myles recycled some images from Magitech.
Verdict: This is a nice mod, and is well done.  All of the models are original, and it even has extras like models for the resources.  The music is very good, but the tech trees are smaller than Magitech size and there is only one resource needed to harvest.
 
Nihilirian | Faction Discussion
By: Nihilirian
Description: A new tech tree, focused on two distinct races: Arcturus and Sirius.
Known Bugs: Arcturus is way too powerful and the images are hard to see.
Verdict: This Tech tree is very well done overall, with new music, sounds, and models.  I would have to note that the two factions do what many RTS games do: rename instead of changing stats.  The units are so similar that you can easily say that "unit A1 corosponds to A2, and B1 to B2" etc.  This is unfortunate.  However, what really killed the grade for this faction was the balance.

Vbros Pack 1 and Vbros Pack 2 | Faction Packs' Discussion
By: Eliminator
Description: These two faction packs contain eight factions in total.  In Vbros 1 is pirates, jungle men, circus, and china.  Vbros 2 has the factions bugs, Canadians, crusaders, and martians.
Known Bugs: The textures are plain, the animations are a bit choppy, and there are few new sounds.
Verdict: These downloads provide new life to Glest.  The animations are a little choppy, and the textures are a bit plain, but the factions included are very enjoyable.  Eliminator continues to make new factions, so expect that there will be yet another faction pack.

Invaders | Faction Discussion
By: Mark
Description: A totally finished tech tree  balanced well and based off of Titi's work, using his models.  The models are reskinned to match the themes of the factions.
Known Bugs: There is a lack of new sounds and no new models.
Verdict: This tech tree is without balancing issues faced by Magitech factions, however it is smaller.  More work could be done by finishing off sounds for the faction, but otherwise, this faction is completed.

Dwarves | Faction Discussion

Description: This mod has many (great!) new models and is intended to be Magitech-compatible.

Dark Magic v 6.3 | Faction Development

Description: A work-in-progress mod that is fully balanced with Tech and Magic.  This is beta version 3.1.  Currently, this faction is also the task of the GLADE Team.

Elves | Faction Discussion

Description: This mod is in v. 0.8.  This faction has fantastic models, and an attempt to fix this faction's AI problem has been made by removing the tree resource.  It is designed for Magitech. 

Romans | Faction Discussion

Description: A non-historical faction based around the Roman civilization.

Woodsmen | Faction Discussion

Description: An original faction with new models but is currently not under development.  This is a well-done faction with balance and originality. 

Mainline Quality Standards
What are they?
This is simply an easier way to rate factions.  The standard is the quality which standard factions should meet.  We are constantly raising the bar, which means the mods should be expected to be better.  However, factions that no longer meet the standards but once did will not be removed.  Factions that never met the standards will never appear here, though.

XMLs: It is expected that factions have no bugs, and that each unit is specialized for its faction; that is, not just renamed from another faction.
Audio: It is expected that factions have original music soundtracks for the faction, whose theme is appropriate to the faction as well.  An attempt at unit sounds should be made as well.
2D Art: It is expected that factions have original images which depict their respective unit or faction theme.
3D Models: It is expected that factions have original models, and at least a majority of the units have been modeled or modified geometrically.  Models should be respectably well done, and there should be an appropriate amount of polygons.


Blender is a 3D modeling program, and people of the Glest Community have created some Blender add-ons for importing and exporting g3d file, which is the model format that Glest uses. I would probably rather download them from the forums, where it is more convenient for me.  Most new to Glest will probably not visit the wiki anyways, because they haven't heard about it.  On glest.org there is no link to the wiki, so I would have had a hard time finding it.  Maybe that can be fixed?

PS how do I add my signature to my posts?  The FAQ page says it's at the bottom, but it isn't.

No I mean up at the top, with Home, Gallery, Downloads, Forums, Engine, TechTree, About, (Spanish).

I think there should be a link to the wiki there.  Does anyone besides Martino control that site?

They are the navigation links for the website. If I clicked on a wikia link I wouldn't expect it to go to a different website.

(Ok, maybe I'm just trying to make the poor military look better, but...)

maby he should re grade it when the AI is fixed

If he can't fix it within a few weeks, I'll take what he has, and fix it up myself even if it means I gotta redo every xml and rename half the units!

Also, please be patient with me Omega; I'm determinged to make this faction a quality one. =]                 <--notice the smiley...it's not screwed up because of the forums' current condition (GDLoS).

wow i didn't know there were so many new factions and new stuff, thats kool i only knew about the megapack, can't wait to try it all out. one more thing, what kind of computers are you guys using? because i have some sound problems (for more info go here: http://www.glest.org/glest_board/viewto ... =10&t=3987 ) and it seems like that you guys don't have trouble with the sound and graphics.

hey modman, i downloaded the blender foundation and blender itself from their webpage, but what do i do with it?  :?:  
and another thing, i downloaded all new factions (Arcturus, Sirius, Norseman, Indian) and put them into the glest techs folder, but when i want to play them, i get an error message saying that it didn't find the megapack_v2 and some other stuff like Arcturus files, what am i doing wrong? there is a screenshot of the error message in the attachment. please help anybody,

The Nihilirian Mod for example uses its own tech-tree, = techtree.xml ! So you have a wrong techtree.xml for the sirius and the arcturus faction. That causes the error.

ok thanks, but can i combine all of these techtrees? so that i can choose to play a game where i can choose 4 trees out of the 6? i hate it when i have to switch the trees. and one more thing: there are 2 other techtrees called "colonies" and "dark_magic", what do i do with them, can i combine these 2 with all the others too? and is yes, how do i do that?

Yes you can combine techtrees, but that requieres that you combine the techtree.xml 's , too!
For example in techtree 1 there is a armor type energy, which is not in techtree 2. So you need to make a new techtree which have all the armor and attack - types from all techtree.xml 's .

But thats not something for normal players. You have to know a bit about glest xml editing.

hey, maybe i am a normal player and maybe i don't know as much about glest as you, but don't think that i never went into the glest directory and changed some xml files with wordpad, such as making some techs stronger or change looks and names of figures in the game, and there is one thing: yesterday i put the dark_magic files and the magic files all together, and made a new faction called supermagic, (well i only mixed two factions up, but i am still proud of my "new faction"). I am not a normal player, but i am a normal little bit of advanced player. (don't take this for offense titi, but i just want to make a point here :mrgreen:  )

Technically it's free. Put something in an envelope and get it posted to yourself with recorded delivery and there you go. Whether that would work in court...

You cannot copyright anything to do with glest unless it is created by you.  That would mean the images, XMLs, textures maybe too.  Also models.  You would actually have to write an entirely new engine to sell it however.
