Creating an RTS Game
« on: 16 October 2008, 20:56:28 »
Hello All,

I'm sorry if this has been asked before since this is my first time here, but I would very much like to create an RTS game based on WWII, much like Axis&Allies. I know, the market is already flooded with them but the problem with most of them is that although they are worthy games they usually all fall short of their promise to be a truly stellar game.

This of course leaves us players usually angry and searching for other games to fill in the void, which lead me to here!  I understand that GLEST is a free open source RTS game engine with that being said, my question to everyone is that by using this game engine is it possible for me to create a game similar to Axis& Allies, with the added scope of say a World at War style game.

V/r,

Mike Gross

The short answer is no. The games you mention are 2d turn based strategy games. Glest is a 3d real-time engine.

I would suggest you look into using the Hearts of Iron 2 engine (can't remember the name atm) its more what you're after and has a full suite of modification tools. Also I believe Paradox (the creators) have allowed people to make commercial games with it at little or no cost.
