Wall
« on: 23 October 2008, 02:16:16 »
First off I know this topic has been talked about a lot but know one really has gotton serious about it even though their are several people who are active on the forums and are  exelent modelers.
So since it apears to me that every faction could benifit from having a wall why dont we start making them.

I dont know anything about modeling but an pritty good at xml so i can handle that
would anyone be intrested in making the modles? I was thinking it would be just a short rectangle that the workers of each faction chould build next to each other to create a long wall.

eventually if people actually get involved we could make a gate or somthing

...but the only problem is, only GAE properly supports walls (and there's already a wall for it...), but GAE doesn't rotate the walls according to the position of the walls, so it's still not that great. But still, they exist.

There is another problem with walls. The computer cannot use them correctly. It would not be worth it to make a wall because even if the wall could rotate, it could be used unfairly to let the player beat the computer too easily (no fun) and if the computer builds too many, they can trap themselves.

Though here's a suggestion for glest: add a rotate button for building buildings. (Rotate could be r, or some other ascii character...

just make it so that it had to be built at least 2 spaces away from other buildings no traping and give it hp so it could be destroyed (just a lot of defence and maybe make it weak against cataputs and stuff like that) (yes that can be done)

I hope Daniel can implement a building rotator, now that would be cool.

Yeah!
When the building 'ghost' appears to show you where you can build the building, a way to hit R and it will rotate 90 degrees at a time. This will let use walls right, but the cpu will have to be fixed so walls aren't randomly placed.

No, the walls need to be programmed so that they're automatically rotated, cause rotating them would be too complicated. (If you didn't already know, GAE has a way of placing the walls properly now. You just have to click and drag. :) )

Someone here is "allergic" to GAE I think. =)

Uhh, riiiight.

Edit: But still, building rotation would be useful. :) *thinks about trying to make a gate for Glest*
