Don't stop now

Well, even though you think developement is finished... I guess this is far from over. There is a lot of work still to be done. So I will start a list here of things that IMHO are still to do.

I do not want to "suggest" any of the team to do it, but  perhaps some of the community would appreciate to lend a helping hand.
Anybody may append its own thoughts to this list at will. Even: if somebody feels some things are not necessary or are low-priority - just give it a shout.

Things to do:

1) write an easy to understand tutorial on how to create maps, faction or even a campaign. As a help for the community, that will possibly create maps, factions and stuff (and BTW this might help to check if it is at least possible to do such things)
2) enlarge the number of import-/export filters for 3D-models, esp. so people can export models from free software like 3D GMAX or other free software to glest
3) start a page to list glest-related projects, so people may (someday) download selfmade campaigns
4) make a section to host ressources for future developers
5) improve usability of map-editor, create tools for faction editing and other stuff
6) check wether it should be possibly to create cutscenes for campaigns or even play video files.
7) create campaign-editor to work with glest

Still if anyone got any suggestions - or maybe some of the community is willing to take on one or many of these points... just add your opinion to this thread. :)

The version 1.0(1.0.1) is not really a final version. It is an important step and maybe very symbolic. and, how I understand they are going to work for it as seriously as before.
1) I do not think there is any real campaign-support in game, right now.
2) I will try to build some blender scripts. And somebody else maybe for other programs But I think it is not legal to do a gmax-plugin, if you do not pay for supporting it.
3) There is currently no serious project(you talk about modifications?), I think.
4) You know it is closed source?
5)That would be nice, although it would better to support real Heightmaps, so you can work in 3D with several other editors(but that is not only a assignment of the editor, also for the game). 3D in the gameown-editor would also be great(by loading the graphics engine?)
6)Would be great. I would personally like to do this in ingame-realtime-animation. But see 1), so it is no job to do next.
7) see 1) and 6)

Well, sorry to confuse you, but I had not really read the Glest 1.0 thread(skimed through).
Very sad to hear it.

Hi,

We know there are things to work on in Glest to keep us busy to the rest of our lives, the most important thing would be to add multiplayer support,  but we have already spent a lot of time working on it and it has become a very complex project for four people.

However, even if we are not going to work seriously on it we will contunue to host the web and answer any questions as well as solving stability or balance issues.

It's also a real possibility that Glest goes open source in the future.

@Martino how about at least producing a documentation of your code and file format. This might allow the other guys to go on working on import/export filters, game editors and stuff.

@Tom: I do not think there is anyone working on periphery, when there is no development for  the main part  and the game is on this "rudimentary" status.

The game is not in a rudimentary status, it's fully playable and all 3D and 2D art is done.

@Speedator I see your point. But I don't agree. Glest is already great stuff. There is always space for improvements, though.

Yes, you ca play with Glest and is done alot, but it is not enough that a lot of will be interest in it for longer time, if the is no following development. That is what I want to say
