2 New Map: Tropical Set
« on: 16 November 2008, 04:04:55 »
Well after making a Tropical map, I decided to add an old map I made before making my first map. Its got no glitches but waterlevel reaches their feet. Thats for Tropical Fortress map, but the new Tropical Arena Map is wonderful! http://www.mediafire.com/?4dbcax8zyza Thats for Tropical Arena
Would be a professional made map. Its features:
-Beachlike area around the map, Looks quiet effective
-2 Player map which makes this large map very fun!
-Mountains and trees and everything looks perfect together
-Lots of gold areas!
-Lots more but really words cant describe how the graphics are in this map. Try it out!

http://www.mediafire.com/?odwmnojnxye Thats for Tropical Fortress
Its kinda of a map, first made one but has no glitches or bugs. Features:
-Water level makes it look like a swamp or a water map (its not that high)
-Trees and mountains make it a fortress
-Layout of map makes it a challenge to find each other (4 players)
-Good gold amounts
-Lots of ways to kill your opponent!

Have fun and pls comment on these maps... If you were to choose which map to play based on creativity and profensional, Tropical Arena is the one but both are still good!

ENJOY

note: maps i make were tested for about a few hours so yeah

Your maps are OK, and I wish I had the patience to make maps myself, by is there anything you can do to make your maps a little more like the Glest maps (the ones that come with Glest when you download it)

I'm not tying to diss your maps at all, but I was making a map today and it's a little frusterating because making a good map is so hard...It's almost like a good map has some untangible that all modded maps just don't seem to have.  Maybe it's because the default maps were made by a pro.

I call the Tropical Fortress Crap, but the Tropical Arena took me like a while. I really studied those maps that you get by default and I learned how they got to make their map looking real so yeah after doing that, I made a map Tropical Arena with those elevation and nature parts. kinda hard to explain

I meant that it looked like it was made by a pro.
Attack me for not saying something perfectly, I'll attack you for having spelling mistakes and run-on sentences and incomplete sentences in every one of your posts.

Unless your natural language is not English...but still, you know how to complete an idea.

Yes I will download that map you were speaking of...I anticipate great things! :]

I'm sorry for the off topic.

1st you don't seem to have much experance in a chat like room complete sentaces are rare punchuations are even more rare. And you attack the persons maps saying they wern't made like a pros as the origanals maps were. They weren't made by pros unless you call college students pros. Second not everyone is as a fuss bucket as you on spelling are you some kind of a english major. If you are then you will spend most of your life frustrated at peoples gramer and spelling. And lastly for a person who wants perfect gramer and spelling all the time so you can easy understand you above all elese should watch there words because you made yourself look not to bright saying that the origanal maps were made by pros. So unless you want to live by what you say then give a person who isn't the best at spelling or gramer a break. Because even the great you who knows all on spelling and grammer can make himself not clear or sound not that informed.

There is no need to 'attack' anyone and comments should be no worse than constructive criticism.

It was modman who wants to be Mr. grammer and spell checker plus map expert. So yes my spelling isn't great and grammer not into that at all but at least I don't try to attack somebody honest effort to making a map. And tell him that the original maps were made by pros. Witch there not unless you consider college students pros. And when I pointed this out to modman he attack my grammer and spelling. So I just pointed out to him even when you spell good and use punchuation you can still sound uninformed. So if he wants to attack my spelling let him and I'll be here to point out when he is a error. If you want perfection from others as modman does he should be willing to give it himself if not then cut everyone some slack. And if modman thinks he can make a better map let him. But don't run down others honest try with false statement like he made about the origanal maps was made by pros when they weren't.

I think I've delved into the tip of the iceberg where it comes to making a map that is "good" (I'm not labeling anyone here, plus good is still good, compared to bad, for instance) and one that is "fantastic".  Three things I observed from the default maps:
*Rivers are nice.  Make them at least 3 tiles wide, not more than 12 or 14.  Notice that I said wide, not in radius.
*The paths should be only one level higher than that which would show water.
*Use the tileset objects.  I make my maps only for the forest tileset, but be careful; note and express in a readme or in the forums what tileset it was meant for.  In forest, put custom object 2 near paths crossing rivers and tileset object 3 near the entrances to players' bases.  Mountains should be completely surrounded with custom object 5.
