Trouble on Linux, Screen is Grey
« on: 18 November 2008, 23:44:28 »
Yeah, i have no idea what to do lol, i'm new to linux.  I have xubuntu 8.10 on an Inspiron 4100 Dell laptop.  Has an nVidia graphics card, with the drivers installed.  But for some reason, when I start a game, the screen is gray.  When i click around a bit, the screen flashes and i can see a little bit of the game.  But it's most certainly not playable like this... anyone able to help?

This has happened before. I can't find the thread though.

You could try turning off shadows. If you already have the latest graphics drivers maybe trying older ones.  Or try a different version of Glest (or re-install). Maybe different resolutions.

This is for a different game but might work. http://www.totalbf2142.com/forums/showt ... 024&page=3

What i did (after trying all kinds of crap like reinstall format and all ) i found out when i installed my drivers for the onboard graphics it came in conflict (without notice) with my AGP nvidia 5200 and 5700 .. After REMOVING my onborad graphics display driver and installing only my Nvidia driver...grey screen was gone!!

well that would make sense, cause i do have an on-board graphics card.  Eh.  Ok, thanks!  I'm kinda hoping that turning shadows off will work lol.... cause i don't wanna mess with the drivers again, last time i did that my computer ran really slow for a week till i figured out i screwed up the drivers hahaha.  Thank you for your help though!

Good to hear. Could be good to change add "[Solved]" to the start of the topic name.
