It's not off topic, its concerning The topic (sort of), which is 'Engineering a Website'.

I'll be changing the topic name to "Engineering a GAE Website" [/b][/size]

Designing a Logo

We need a logo for the GAE. I don't think it is satisfactory to copy the work of the glest team and add "Advanced Engine" below it (I sound like my mother :D) sprawled out.
My personal favorite is the first. If you guys have a better idea, please do tell. I remember Gameboy's idea of the two swords crossing, but for me, it's too simple (I greatly hope you are not offended by this, Gameboy)

Icons

When I was using photoshop, I was never a good object drawer. I couldn't make a decent icon to save my family's life if some mass murderer captured them all and said he'd do horrible things unless I created the object. Ever since I switched to gimp and I read "Grokking the GIMP", that has changed, but I still do not call my self a decent icon creator. Anyway, if anyone wants to contribute (Original) icons, you may.

For the website, I would recommend a "made of wood" theme, like Tech is.  There could be various evil-looking skulls to include Magic as well if you wish.

I'll start drawing the logo right away.  It'll be two swords stuck into the ground in an X formation standing up behind a Wzardly-looking staff and a skull in front of that all.  The wizard staff will be vertical (standing up) too.

Whoa! That was a good desciption. Please do go ahead and draw. I tried drawing an engine like hailstone suggested and....well....it didn't work. I'm getting better at drawing stuff though :D. For the website theme, I was trying to lean more towards a magic theme...sort of like the theme of the enter page of glest.codemonger.org. But, maybe a tech theme would work out more.

I actually have a different design and I hope to post it soon.  The problem is someone would have to rewrite the program to accept the size because it is  more squarish, and the engine will try to squish it.  PLEASE post any comments on it to help me decide what to change or what ideas you have because maybe I can work with them.

Here it is.  The engine squashes it into a different resolution.  It looks best at full resolution, and I suggest you work with the engine to get it to fit.

I love the concept. I'll try to make it 3d and "graphical" in the gimp. This may take some time. Thanks for drawing the image.

I like the concept, but it would be nice to have a more hand-drawn cartoony look and style.

That is a very nice design Aryin. Did you make that from scratch or did you take it from various pictures? I took a break with the design of the website and started focusing on the PHP coding. I'm making an admin panel so various administrators of the website can edit data on the site. If you did make it from scratch, are you willing to contribute the original file. Don't feel obliged to say yes. When I make something that other people think is really cool, I'm not so quick to fork over the original file. :D

Really i found all of them inside an old cd i've made full of this kind of images so i really don't know who made that, i use also some of those images as texture for models and it work pretty good.
Cartoony look?? are u sure? We make a 3d game and we will have a cartoony style site?

Do u need help for admin pages and code? Let me know <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" />

The coding for the website isn't difficult, it's just long and my christmas break from school just ended. If anyone would like to contribute any code or ideas, feel free.

Sorry I haven't been here for a while. I had an accident and broke my jaw and my leg (You don't want to know how it happened). I just finished making a big step in the admin part of the website and now, all I have to do is the graphics. However, these strange people that call themselves my family :D are prying me off the computer and making me rest so it is likely I will be afk for a while. I'm sorry this happened. Anyone of you can feel free to take over while I'm gone.

Are we able to get a basic website developed? Nothing fancy, just what is there already with more pages and content (screenshots, about, FAQ, etc).

If you want to do something gameboy, gather some screenshots.

Above is a concept that I designed on one of my better days. I filled in the website as if it were my company's website (Iris Designs) and added my logo and the menu items. I've done this just to show how it would look with content in it. Please review it as a possible GAE website.

I made the original GAE style...and I hate it (except the enter page). Maybe I hate it because I've seen so many times.  ??? Do you really want to finish the old one Mictes?
