Advanced Tileset
« on: 21 December 2008, 09:43:41 »
With the work on my mod (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4017) I will create the Advanced Tileset.
There are two steps:

Step 1: Combine all Tilesets and adapt mapeditor
I'll combine the best and the most popular tilesets:
Desert-Tileset; Tropical Tileset; Autumn-Tileset, Winter-Tileset, Wasted-Tilesed (From my mod, not released yet), Evergreen-Tileset; Standart-Tileset.
Of Course Their respective creators will get lots of credit 8)

Would require a complete remodeling of the glest engine though to support it...

I don't think it would be a very good idea to have palm trees next to the snowed-on trees.  Maybe there could be regions on the maps!

I do like the idea of fixing the map editor.

One moment, you have a wrong imagination of my idea.
You could have fir-trees near to ices-terrains, behind the fir-trees normal trees and grass-terrains.
Like on the real Earth, the Klimate-zones. This funktions are in big RTS like in Empire Earth, too.
And I wont really fix the map-editor, I'll just add the new terrains and objects.

Wacky world! Palm trees in the arctic! Pines in the desert! It's going to be the wacky map in the world!

um, When I read it I thought more of being able to use all ground from all tilesets and all models.
Like that you could make regions with snow and regions with forest and others.

I've implemented these climate zones into the concepts of the new map editor.

Exactly, all thats needed is more slots for ground textures and objects within the editor. If it supported 100 surfaces and 100 object types there would be enough room for all the current tilesets to be combined into one huge tileset.

The biggest problem with this is that old maps will be limited to the first 5 surfaces and 10 objects. New maps would have to be created.
