Animation instructions for Dark Magic
« on: 28 December 2008, 03:02:55 »
I have finally finished all animation instructions for Dark Magic.  You can download it from HERE.

Please read the tutorial and "sign up" for a unit if you want to model it.  This is to prevent a bunch of people from modeling one unit.  Not that it will be like that, but just in case...

I'll attempt to put it on the forums, but you'll still probably want to download the pack just to see some crappy model examples I made. ;}

The pictures arent working, so I will when they're fixed.

Plus you're also downloading a couple examples of buildings (mainly the Sorcery Runes and the Time Orb)

These anim instructions will also come with the next version of Dark Magic, when ever that is.

I understand downloads, but ever heard of image shack. You could have a format were you have a long post with the unit name, the picture(s) of concept art, and other information. Links to downloads could be posted as well if someone is interested enough. That way we don't have to download a bunch of things if we may end up doing only one unit (or none at all).

Aside from image shack, you could also use mediafire.

OK I put the tutorial up on the first post; hopefully you can read the second page!
There's some examples you may want to see in the pack, so you may decide to download it anyhow.  Enjoy, and please make models!

I would like to focus on the buildings (first).
Do you have any ideas for them?
( did you get my email? )

I got the email.  I had exams, and usually I respond to emails within 24 hours, but I couldn't because of the exams.
It would be nice to start out with the Tower of Wisdom.  I think it's animation and behavior is pretty-well spelled out in the images at the top of the page, so you should be easy in that regard.  Also, the artistic theme of Dark Magic (bloody spikes) is pretty consistant throughout Dark Magic, so once the Tower of Wisdom is completed, there should be no confusion over any beautifications of future buildings.  What do you think?

OK I got the model, and I, again, would really appreciate it if it looked like in the drawing.  Please don't be discouraged; if what I ask is too hard please tell me, but in the same light, please try your best!  To be precise, I have listed changes that I would appreciate to occur.
  • It's about a Swordsman's height taller than an Archmage Tower
  • No matter how bad you think the idea is, please follow the concept of the drawing completely
  • The skull is in the wrong position (I know it was hard to see)
  • There's supposed to be "energy" around the skull's position (This is why the building costs energy)
  • The skull levitates up and down in the standing animation
  • I guess I wasn't completely clear about this, but during the upgrading animation, the skull also spins while it levitates
  • For an attacking animation, a spike (preferably in the "front" of the model, because Glest spins the model to face attacker whilst attacking) should dissapear (because it is flying off as a projectile; you could just make this a lightning-fast movement inwards) and then slowly slide back into place

A bigger version of the Tower of Wisdom image is below.

Dern JPG >:( !  Killed the image quality (guess it's my fault for using Paint to convert :P)

In a bit, it would be nice to have my crappy excuse for a Daemon Slayer replaced with a far better one, Titi.  A concept image is below.

for the tower of wisdom: as I said before, you cannot see the skull in the position you want it
There is no difference if it is with skull or without !

I made a big version(with head under the hood) so you can see it yourselft ...
(I send you a mail)

Whats the next building?
Do you have any pictures for me? Or do you want a new surprise :)

It looks fantastic, but the triangles around the circumferance are actually stout (short and fat) spikes, not 2-D triangles.  I like the spirals though! ;D

GLADE Team:

check out the first post of this topic for animation instructions and all that.

I'll do the Dark Mage. Hectate can do the Imp or the Reaper.

I'll start with the Imp.
What kind of quantity do we expect of these on-screen at one time? What kind of poly limit should I work within here?
Thanks.

@ Hectate: I really don't know, but i think its going to be a cheap unit, so an early game abundance of the unit is to be expected.
