I have yet to play a single game. I click new game, start a 2 player map (me magic, CPU tech) on Valley of Death, Forest tileset, Magitech techtree. I click Play Now! and it scrolls a bunch of text. Then I start with a small amount of units, a couple buildings. I can click on anything and get the action options, but any time I right click (I assume that defaults to move action) while a unit is selected I get the above error. If I click move on the unit options menu then click on the ground, I get the above error. If I click the flag and click anywhere on the ground, I get the above error. If I click on any of the build options for the mages and click on the ground to build it, I get the above error. Basically, if I do anything except just let the game run I get the above error.

I have a Sapphire Radeon HD2600XT video card, Audigy 4 Pro sound card, 4GB RAM, running Windows XP x64 Professional SP2.

EDIT: I tried running it in compatibility mode for 2000 and 98. Same errors in 2000 mode, crashes with "ERROR (5): Can not open file: tilesets/data/data.xml" when running in 98/ME mode without making an entry to crash.txt.

Which version of Glest do you use ?

Using version 3.1.2 Windows.

I did a search for data.xml, and nothing came up on my entire system. Is this the problem?

Did you made any changes at the game ?
From where did you get it ? Do you use GAE ?

Fresh install (first error came up within 3 minutes of installing). Don't know what GAE is.

Try an clean install with the latest Glest (make sure to download a new exe from glest.org). Delete all files of your old installation!

Guess I'll be back in about 11 hours since that's how long it takes to download over my internet. Though after googling I found a cached topic (clicking on it non-cached brings me to a completely different thread...) about this exact same issue, though it was never fixed. This thread links to a linux topic that is similar, but has to do with linux driver problems (not my issue). It's about drawing a red arrow that I've never seen (crashes before it's supposed to appear I'm assuming).

I'll try a reinstall when it's done, but no hopes. Maybe my video card is too new. :shrug:

EDIT: I assume the URL http://superb-east.dl.sourceforge.net/s ... _3.1.2.exe is proper, yes? That's where I got it from last time.

Still happens with GAE, only now the same error happens when I click on a unit (instead of waiting for me to give them an order). Doesn't matter whether I use the i686 or the sse2 builds.

Laramon's right @kukac@. Although it will have more traffic on the GAE board, it just isn't the right place to go. I'm sure that Laramon will want to try to get the basic Glest to work first... Have you tried the beta-3? It's not much different from 3.1.2, but it's worth a shot.

Oh, and have you even redownloaded it yet? It's always best to download from glest.org's main page too...

No I haven't tried the Beta yet. I did redownload the client however. The link I got was from going through the main webpage (redirected).

However, after reinstalling my video card's drivers (same version, but something must have gone wrong the first time) the game works now. But now some other games are broken, like EVE Online now sometimes crashes when it was working perfectly before... grrr...

It seems like a neat game with a learning curve. Can't wait to try out mods later.

here it is, i think this is a screen shot of the problem he is having, i have it also,
