okay, this thread is actually about something titi suggested, this thread is dedicated to one faction in which we, the poeple of the Glest community, are going to work on. Now which faction that is, is still left to think about, that is another reason i started this thread, to choose one faction from all the one's in progress or to create a new one.

the faction currently in progress are:
Persian Faction
Dwarf Faction
Underworld Faction
Dark Magic
Tech II
Elves

The few that are just concepts:
Goblins
Undead Faction
Orcs

if there are any factions i have not mentioned pls do so.

I think it should be a new faction. The creators of the current mods are going to have their ideas already and if the community disagrees then arguments could start. If a list of sensible options were proposed for a new faction we could do it the diplomatic way and vote.

Now we've just got to come up with some ideas...

lets collect ideas first and then we vote for a new faction.
what about these ( I like these ideas very much! ):

robots: this would be very nice and you can include lots of ideas. And its good for modelling beginners, because its much easier to create a good looking robot than human/animals.

aliens: same as above and we can include cool particle effects ( maybe a bit oversized :) )

and both would allow a new fancy tileset to play in

How about Dark Magic.  It seems that modman could use a little help with modeling & working really hard.  The projects that are called by communitiys don't usually get done.  Magitech is obviously the best tech tree so why not make it better.

Yeah, I think this would definitely call for an entirely new tree.  Since it seems like most of the mods people are making are medieval fantasy LOTR-style ones, it would be nice to deviate a little and make a more sci-fi type mod.  Robots and aliens?  Sure, why not.  I can lend a hand modeling the buildings.

Actually that's a good idea from Titi. If we want something to fit Magitech then how about going with a race that aren't human at all? Insects, animals, whatever,

I think if we're going to make a mod that fits into Magitech, it would have to be something that goes along with that dynamic.  Magic and technology are two opposing forces, opposite sides of the same coin, if you will.  We'd need to find that third side.  Religion, perhaps?  I was thinking more like we'd do something completely separate from Magitech, though.

I don't think that would really fit with Magitech very well.  Magic and technology are related (but usually opposing) concepts, so any other faction that got put into Magitech should go along with that theme.  [bizarre abstract analogy]Imagine that Magic and Tech are like magnetism and gravity.  They're semi-related, they do sort of the same thing, blah blah blah.  Putting "Beast-Insects" in with Magic and Tech would be like putting "Grapefruit" in with magnetism and gravity.  It just doesn't fit.  Religion (kind of) does.  It would be more like adding atomic weak force.[/bizarre abstract analogy]  This is all beside the point, though, as I don't think that adding a new faction to Magitech is the way to go anyway.

I like johndh's idea on religion it seems to fit because Magic and Tech are using some kind of wierd and unrealistic stuff (like the Orthinopter and Behemoth), in the same way religion would fit because, well, an Angle is kinda out-of-this-world kinda unit.

And for new factions in magitech:
I really think it is possible to set other factions into the magitech techtree and
I like my indians and norsemen there! And I think the persians will fit too!
If your focus too much on the backgroundstory, glest is definatly the wrong game for you!
Its gameplay is strongly focussed on playing realtime strategy and not on "playing a magic story".

Call it whatever you want.  It won't hurt my feelings.  I don't really see tech as being religious.  I think they're more concerned with their machines and gadgets than worrying about a higher power.

True, but things should at least make sense and jive properly.  Plus, if campaign mode ever gets done...

Thats what modman said here in the forum and its absolutely not true! I still think that tech is the strongest faction!
And if you never tried it, please do it, its really fun to play and I really think its the best mod out there up to now.

Serafin - lesser angle, attacks on land with a sword

Gate of Heaven - Trains angels
Monastery- Priest, Saint

If I'm not mistaken, Seraphim are one of the highest orders of angels and I seem to remember Cherubim being armed with flaming swords.  Maybe just have an Angel unit that can promote into High Angel or something like that, just to avoid confusion.

Sounds good.  I really like the name "Gate of Heaven".  Shouldn't the Monastery train monks instead?

More brainstorming:
Units: Witch Hunter promotes to Exorcist, Templar would make a good promotion from Crusader.
Upgrades: Fanaticism (allows Templars), Divine Favor (allows High Angels), Purification (increases attack of Witch Hunter and Exorcist), Retribution (increases attack of Apostle, Crusader, and Templar), Temperance (increases units' armor or health, allows Saints)
I don't like this religion idea and is it voted yet? Did I miss something?
It's just an idea I threw out there as an example, but I guess somebody decided to run with it. :lol:

It doesn't really make sense to have a faction that can recruit Angels. How could they, anyway?
