new board....
« on: 11 January 2009, 09:33:24 »
Ok, anyone knows what happend?

Looks like we have a new board now, but I think we have no lost posts.( or is anything missing? )
My password didn't work anymore. But I could set a new one to log in.

By the way, we already had 3 spam posts up to now ( I removed one, but I could not delete the user due to missing rights https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?action=profile;u=5627 )
and there are lots of new users which doesn't look realy good like this one:

Yeah we moved to this board because phpbb3 was breaking our server, a lot of people seem to have this problem, but the people from phpbb claim is not their fault so they will never fix it, that's why we had to move our board.

Nice... I like it!

It'll take some getting used to, but it does seem to be better and have more compatibility. For example, it can set tables in BBC code, which the old PHPBB couldn't. I was confused a little while ago when I saw that error message. Unfortunately, I had to change my passwor to (well, not exactly a change, since I changed it right to what it was before...) What caused the password thing though? I had an email where Modman had some trouble too.

Ooh, cool. You can insert flash video...
And Marquees (just like HTML)...

We know this board is not as nice as the old one, in fact it is a bit ugly. However we heard that it is way more stable than phpbb, and that's what we need because phpbb was messing with our mysql and our hosting was not happy about it.

Well, regardless, it's nice to see you again, Martino. Been a while. We wouldn't want glest to DIE, would we?

Well done on migrating the old posts especially if the database structure is different.

yes, but all external links doesn't work anymore ( from google search results for example ) can this be fixed ? Probably with an extra php script for example?
old syntax:
http://www.glest.org/glest_board/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3970
new syntax:
https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=3970

This cannot be so hard and will fix most ( not all !) problems!

Another thing I miss are the smileys. The current state where smileys are replaced by words is really annoying.

I was worried that the posts might be different numbering but it seems to be the same.

Also for anchors:
https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=4013.msg21324#msg21324

so maybe create viewtopic.php and make it redirect, something like:
Code: [Select]
<?php
$url
"https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=l0lboka2b8ernbhsqspp34k4d8&topic="$GET['t'];
if ($GET['anchor']) {

$url .= ".msg"$GET['anchor'] ."#msg.". $GET['anchor'];
}
redirect($url);
?>

I don't know how to get the anchor from an url, maybe use 'p' but it's not always the same as the anchor number. Also need to be careful of any security issues.

OR
if you can setup mod_rewrite that might be better.

Is it possible to display more topics per page? Because that would be really nice...

I think this is the setting in Admin:
Forum -> Posts and Topics -> Topic Settings -> Number of topics per page in the message index:

The admins would need to change this though.

OK yea, because topics not being on the viewing page tends to have a siclical effect; it may not necessarily be unpopular, but once it gets off the page there's no real chance of anyone posting to your topic.

This is especially annoying when you want feedback.
