Super awesome one!

And another not too bad one.

I didn't get the last one.
Well, it's a programmers lingo one. I'll try and explain. The guy is deleting pointers, and in a comment, he states that he wishes forgetting was that easy (eg: breakup). Then in the last frame, he puts in an assert statement (a statement generally used to debug, since it simply checks to see if the statement passed through is true (ie: 2+2!=5). Hmm, I think I just took the funny out of the joke with that lousy explaination...

In addition, one of the security flaws is based on arguably the most ridiculous product placement in a movie ever, and another is from Lord of the Rings.

Oh for crying out loud, Google has got to be one of the least "evil" corporations you're likely to find.  It's not like Google Earth is invading anybody's privacy, since the only things it's going to see are things you're doing outside in public. ::)

With that said, I trust Google more than just about any other corporation out there, but you still won't find me using Chrome simply because I don't trust any for-profit advertising/information-based company to not put spyware in their closed-source browser, and they really don't need to know what gaming forums I spend way too much time on, who I facebook stalk the most, or what the password to my bank account is.  However, I use Google Docs to do literally all of my document editing other than coding.  Even if they came out and said "We're tracking everything you do on Google Docs and reading all your documents", I wouldn't even care since the most private stuff they'd be reading would be my anthropology papers, and I think I could easily sacrifice that for the convenience. :P

Considering Google's two biggest competitors are the sad joke called "Yahoo!" and the legions of Hell... err... I mean, Microsoft... I'd say Google is definitely the best choice of the three by a wide margin.

Speaking of ABC, has anyone here seen that new show "Food Revolution"?

I agree...with most of what you said.  :|
The only reason I "posted" that video, was because I found it interesting...  ::)
Google...is...pretty good. Besides regarding "privacy"... and some other stuff...  ::)
Yahoo and Microsoft aren't too bad...at least Yahoo... M$$ is somewhat-ish...
Anyways, they all have their own strengths. And weaknesses. M$$ doesn't need to worry too much. For Yahoo, a little bit...depends.

No guys, Google is evil, you really don't seem to realize that once they can control all of that, they can control you, they can pretty much have whatever they want, and they support Global Warming, which is complete nonsense, and the proof for that is in Al Gore's own video. :O

Google is to powerful, only one good person can truly hold immense power without abusing it, but you have Google, people could trick each other and do all this stuff, Google is almost invunerable, *oh look at those people down there......how should we torment them today Bill?*
*Hahahaha, they'll fire these little tiny lawsuits at us that will be deflected by our immensely powerful energy shielding, oh Joe won't that be funny...*

Meanwhile they're sitting 5000 stories high, in Google Plux, the new worlds tallest skyscraper.

That's my prediction, and don't make me keep going I could go on for hours with this stuff.

I can keep on going because I love google. And I'm not afraid to face you on that!  :archer: :swordman:

Haven't you noticed their awesome logos that change for event (ever seen the morse code one? that was awesome, or try googling 'ASCII Art' and watch their logo).

They are a fun loving corporation that treats their employs well (would be a great place to work, along with Jagex, except a bit closer ;) ).

Seriously, have you seen their april fools jokes? I still remember autopilot (a fake gmail extension that automatically replied for you: see here) or Toilet ISP.

Sure their ads can be a bit bad at times, but their tracking is often misunderstood. First of all, cookies: Cookies are merely a simply text document that can hold ONE variable and can ONLY be read by the site that created the cookie. Generally, most web browsers are defaultly set to only accept cookies from the site that you are on (ie: youtube can give you a cookie to remember the volume you had last, or to keep you logged on, even if google has an iFrame on that page, they can't give you a cookie. Of course, google OWNS youtube, so...). Cookies at the best can tell if you've visted the site before and if so, how many times. Their tracking ability is limited. Google generally uses ads in two ways:

1. If you search for something, it gives related ads at the top, which I'm sure every person here knows not to use (except in the rare occasion that that ad is what you're looking for).
2. When the webmaster of a site places ads on his/her site. Unlike some company's at least google's ads aren't p0rn or the like! The ads are generally related to the topic.

Of course, google has the biggest advantages of having the best search engine on the net, the best image search ever (did you know there's a game you can play where you tag the images to score points?). Of course, they also have without doubt the BEST free email program ever, as well as an amazing (mostly) open source web browser which has become incredibly popular (advertising on google's homepage can't hurt ;) ), as well as provide many amazing services to people!

Yahoo is a joke, microsoft should stay out of the search engine business, Google is KING.

PS: just for fun, type this into your google search exactly as shown:
Code: [Select]

Omega, I have a right to privacy, and Google should respect that, I mean we already have plane scanners that show people naked, now imagine if Google could do whatever they wanted and they owned almost everything.......well.......Google would be able to do whatever it wanted to, and who could stop it? No one.

Now, if you haven't noticed, evil tends to act very nice, at least until it has what it wants... ::)

I have a right to privacy, and Google should respect that
If you use Google, you consent to their privacy policy.  Simple as that.  You think Bing and Yahoo don't (try to) track you just as much?  Ever order a pizza from Domino's?  You can bet the store has your name, address, and phone number on file.

That's different John, I don't use Google or Yahoo or Bing, or any of that crap, I use Ixquick.

I mean come on, you have to eat, you have to do things, a lot of people pretty much have to know this stuff, so you can buy stuff.

But, a good point is that they are all separate companies, although if one big company new all this stuff, and owned all these places, Google could do anything to you, they could restrict food from certain people, and there just wouldn't be a damned thing you could do about it. Power is very tempting to abuse, I mean, you like to run around shooting people in video games, well what if Google feels like playing some video games?

Seriously watch that video that Yggdrasil linked to, it's very good.

Indeed. Look's like the truth is out Arch! Seriously, you are being far to paranoid.

Almost every site that has ads, or the like, every forum, and every search engine has some method of tracking. Here's a quick list of examples:

-You are tracked on this board. Your IP adress is logged, which shows your location. In fact, to prove it to you, I'm looking at it right now (though I'll keep it a secret).
-Google may track you, but it is mainly to provide more useful ads (ie: you clicked on that one? Time to show more like it instead of some awkard random toothpaste ad). It doesn't share it with other sites. Rather, it is better than many ad providers like it.
-Many sites, including the glest guide use google analytics, which provides statistics including where in the world most people visit from (quite amazing how diverse the people who vist the GG are! Some from every continent, minus antarctica).

To move the chat away from poor google...
I mean we already have plane scanners that show people naked
Speaking about that, I personally think that people are too worried about terrorist attacks, especially in Canada. Yes, they are terrible, yes 9/11 was horrid, but airports and the like are now far too restrictive. Everyone is far too oversecure, and that's not a good thing. Especially on the Canada/US border, which isn't as open as it should be (IMHO). I distinctly remember a town cradling the border is being split up because some idiot american decided it's a security risk.

A hilarious and possibly unsettling article that is a must-read for anybody involved in MMORPGs.
http://www.cracked.com/article_18461_5-creepy-ways-video-games-are-trying-to-get-you-addicted.html

I'm not saying you shouldn't play them or anything like that (I myself am a big fan of Atlantica Online, as some of you may have gathered), but it's a bit eye-opening to see what's really going on.

PS: As with anything on Cracked.com, prepare for foul language and crude humor.
