@John, that method does work well (I've used it in the past for the extensions people forgot to update). Of course, every now and then one won't work at all because it relies on a removed/changed part of FF.
@Concerning Windows Update: You know, it is possible to get a service pack without windows update. Back on vista, an unknown update was totally screwing my computer up, so I couldn't get Service Pack 1 (which was a requirement for Windows 7). However, I found an exe file that installed Service Pack 1 on my computer meant for people who had to do updates on a large number of computers (naturally, it recommended to use windows update for single computers, but since when do I heed microsoft's advice?). I'm sure there'll be one for you, whatever OS you're on.
Concerning not being able to play games, that should NOT be related to the SP. I tried to update my SP when I had GAE troubles, but it didn't affect it. Only when I updated my graphics card (from the computer manufacturer, not the graphics card manufacturer or windows update).
Having extreme computer troubles? Back everything up, format the HDD, reinstall windows from scratch, add on the files from backup, but reinstall the programs manually. Will take a good day, but works like a charm. Oh, and turn off windows update and screw those horrid auto-update programs (if I really want to update, I think I'll do it myself
).
BTW, I just saw a horror movie yesterday called 'Midnight Movie' and it was quite good. Any of you guys seen that?
