Speaking of Firefox, I found a way to get some add-ons working with version they're supposedly not compatible with. 8)

To get an incompatible add-on to work in Firefox is actually pretty easy.  Basically you have to uninstall your old version of the add-on (if you have it), download it again without installing it (i.e. save link as...).  What you download is an *.xpi, which is just a renamed *.zip that you can open with 7zip or whatever archiver you use.  Inside is a file called install.rdf.  In that file, look for a line that looks like this:
Code: [Select]
<em:maxVersion>3.5.0.*</em:maxVersion>Just change the number and save.  With 7zip and Notepad++, I could edit the file within the archive, but if for some reason you have to extract it to edit it, you can just recompress as a *.zip and change the extension to *.xpi.  Open up Firefox and drag the archive into your browser and it should install on its own.  Note that sometimes an add-on is incompatible for a good reason, but sometimes it's just that the developer doesn't maintain the add-on anymore.  This is the case of Chromin Frame, which is supposedly not compatible with v3.6 or later, but which I'm running just fine on the latest version of Firefox.

-.- if you could play games on Linux it would`ve been awesome...

and the sp1 support runs out on 13 april...And now, they just give me a bot answer, please run windows update.

and that program is unable to run because of a unknown error wich is unable to be located and it only gives me a *** code and the forum guys on the microsoft forums can`t help... it is so annoying/irritating...etc

Cracked Windows

If you own an original Windows XP, you can just send them a message that you require a SP2, and they will send for you by mail (at least they sent for me, and I live in Hungary - where the posting is legendary bad :D ). For free.

Well, for some Windows...(s), the service packs were very important...  ::)
Updates, updates, updates.
Speaking of Firefox, I found a way to get some add-ons working with version they're supposedly not compatible with. 8)
Well, I knew (ways) to do that a long time ago...  ::)
Also, if people want, there are ways to use Chrome addons on Firefox...  ::)

@John, that method does work well (I've used it in the past for the extensions people forgot to update). Of course, every now and then one won't work at all because it relies on a removed/changed part of FF.

@Concerning Windows Update: You know, it is possible to get a service pack without windows update. Back on vista, an unknown update was totally screwing my computer up, so I couldn't get Service Pack 1 (which was a requirement for Windows 7). However, I found an exe file that installed Service Pack 1 on my computer meant for people who had to do updates on a large number of computers (naturally, it recommended to use windows update for single computers, but since when do I heed microsoft's advice?). I'm sure there'll be one for you, whatever OS you're on.

Concerning not being able to play games, that should NOT be related to the SP. I tried to update my SP when I had GAE troubles, but it didn't affect it. Only when I updated my graphics card (from the computer manufacturer, not the graphics card manufacturer or windows update).

Having extreme computer troubles? Back everything up, format the HDD, reinstall windows from scratch, add on the files from backup, but reinstall the programs manually. Will take a good day, but works like a charm. Oh, and turn off windows update and screw those horrid auto-update programs (if I really want to update, I think I'll do it myself ;)).

BTW, I just saw a horror movie yesterday called 'Midnight Movie' and it was quite good. Any of you guys seen that?

Yeah I did the same thing. But uh, it was for Windows XP. (SP3)
And you mean

Windows Vista. Although, M$$ wants to say/acknowledge that Windows 7 is Windows Vista, that Vista never happened...  ::)

I never even used Vista, pretty much. I did, for a few months, then upgraded to Windows 7 for free.  :O
