At some point the religion vs science rhetoric needs to move past alpha build version .002. Time to remodel, add new textures and rework the animations.. so to speak.

No one here is winning the argument. It cannot be won.

gays

Dude, today the word gay is corrupted by homosexuals, it used to mean happy.
Although, I'm certain you meant to say guys, look for typos in your post before you post it.

Thanks for mentioning the team, but surprisingly enough it's off topic, it's related to Glest!
You posted off-topic!!! No just kidding, although it is off-topic, I don't care at all!

Java, thanks but I don't have the time to model anything to spectacular.

John, seriously...... ::) :P
True I could mow the lawn, but I already mow some of my Dads lawn when I fell like it, I don't really get any allowance, except for when I do something productive for my moms dumpy apartment, and even then I don't get much.........

I'm am a very hard-working kid. At least that's comparing myself to the other Kids in my area, who play video-games 24-7.

What, isn't that how kids make money these days?  Mowing their neighbors' yards?  I didn't think times had changed THAT much since the 1990s.

The religion debate STOPS now! Moving on...

I want to sometime program my own RPG as I mentioned earlier, and set a goal to complete it within 8 years ;). However, now despite the code being 100% legit and proper, it isn't updating to display the images correctly. It won't show the new mouse image, but shows an old one that I long since perm deleted, and the background image is pixelated for unknown reasons.

If anyone wants to take a look to see if it works on other computers, download here. It is a 7zip package for the ENTIRE workspace, which does include a windows binary, so no programing experience necessary. If you want to compile it yourself or compile for mac or linux, you'll need to download Irrlicht and compile the three measly files, while changing EDT_D3D9 to EDT_OPENGL in the video driver code in main.cpp (or else it uses Direct X to render). It's very small, only three files so far, since I'm using programing in steps (where I do programing bit by bit so that it may be compiled regularily inbetween).

Just download and see if the exe shows the images correctly. If so, PM me so I know that it must be VS or my computer...

@Archmage: I make money by working at a nearby greenhouse. It's a lousy job and spring/early summer only, in high heat, for low pay, but there's not a whole lot of choices when you've only got a learners! This year I plan on working at my town's Rec Complex which is very understaffed...

The photographs of Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) offer a vivid portrait of a lost world--the Russian Empire on the eve of World War I.

@ haven't clicked through yet (on my phone, no tabs here) but I think I've seen those before. Didn't he do color photos long before anybody else did? Neat stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone (that will be celebrating it - North American I suppose)!

I thought this was good advice and wanted to share it.

Talking about what you're going to do doesn't create or deliver any value. Nor does thinking about it. At some point you have to engage your creative energies and take action. Do whatever it takes to make a daily habit of creating and delivering value to people, even if you feel you're only able to offer a small amount of value at first.

Oh wow, good question arch. I was thinking about something like that not too long ago. Tell us!

I'll take a wild guess at 30+. I really don't know megapixels well.

I want a few more guesses, please nobody cheat and look it up, if you don't know you don't know.

Omega, yes the amount of mega-pixels the human eye has is over 30, but I looking for a specific guess, and if you get within 5 of the actual number, than you win.......nothing but the pride that you almost guess right!

From what I remember, the human eye can detect as few as 5 photons. Trained people are actually more useful for photon detection than any current technology.
Unfortunately photons don't translate into physical dimensions well. For size you'd need to know 1. size of area where optical nerves end on the cones and rods and 2. average density of the cones and rods.

I don't have a number but it's bound to be several hundreds, if not thousands.

Here's a little joke.  I think it's pretty cute:

There was third grade teacher who had just become a born again Christian. She asked her class if any of them were born again Christians. Not knowing what a born again christian was, but wanting to please the teacher, they all raised their hands, except for little Sarah. The teacher asked her why she didn't raise her hand.
'Well I'm an atheist,' she replied.
'Why are you an atheist?' the teacher asked.
'Well my dad's an atheist and my mom's an atheist, and I'm not very religious myself, so I'm an atheist.'
'Well that's no reason,' the teacher replied, 'what if your parents were both morons?'
Little Sarah perked her head up and smiled then replied,'Well then I'd be a born again christian.'

Jokes?

Well there's a story about modman I heard. ;D He always wanted to drive a big yellow school bus full of smiling children. Eventually, one day, he was hired to do just that! Wow was he excited!

So his first day on the job he shows up at the bus garage to get his bus. The mechanic comes out to greet him.

"Well, modman, unfortunately the bus we WERE going to give you is down for repairs at the moment. Here are the keys to the backup bus."

So modman goes out to the garage and the mechanic points out the bus to him. It's not yellow, it's a got Sesame Street characters painted all over it instead. Slightly disappointed, modman thinks to himself "Well, it IS a school bus anyway." The mechanic gives modman his list of pickups and wishes him luck.

Modman pulls out of the garage at looks at his list. The first kids are both Patty. Not too unusual, but odd that they're at the same street, so he heads that way to pick them up.

When he pulls up to the street there are two HUGE girls standing there waiting for him. He just stares in shock as they squeeze their way onto the bus and find a seat. Shaking his head a glances at his list and starts out to the next street. The next name on his list is Ross.
Pulling up to the street where Ross is standing he opens the door and says "HI!"

"H - He - Hell - Hello M - Mr. Bbbus driver sir." Ross stammers as he climbs into the bus. He shuffles over to a seat and sits down, drooling on himself.

A little more disturbed, modman looks at his next name - Lester - and starts off to the address to pick him up. When he gets there he is relieved to see that Lester seems to be a bit more normal.

"Good morning, Lester" modman says as the boy gets on the bus.
"Sup dude" Lester says as he finds a seat.

Lester was his last pickup so modman turns the bus around and heads to the school to drop them off - but in the mirror he notices Lester taking his shoes off and picking at his feet!

"What are you doing?" modman asks incredulously.
"Oh, I've just got some bunions that hurt a lot. I like to pick at them before school because the teachers won't let me."

Well modman is really disturbed now, but he's at the school so the kids get off and he parks the bus. Just when he finishes his phone rings - it's his best friend.

"Hey man, have a good first morning on the job?" his friend says.
"Well, not really."
"What's the matter? I thought you always wanted to drive a school bus?"
"Well, yea - I always wanted to drive a big yellow bus full of happy smiling kids." modman admits.
"So what's the problem?"

Modman replied frustratedly, "Well instead of that, today I got two obese Patties, special Ross, and Lester picking bunions on a Sesame Street bus."

(queue laughter or confused looks)
If you're the latter, try saying the last line fast, or googling up "Big Mac Jingle"
