when we buy petroleum, some of the money goes to governments that support terrorist organizations.
I support you so much for that John! This is why to buy your oil from Canada. Particularily Alberta and Saskatchewan. This is why I support Sask's environmental minister's statements at Copenhagen!
Besides sask is a major producer of resources, including potash (which is used to make high quality fertalizer, something very important for the earth's growing populations), petroleum, uranium (vital for the production of nuclear energy, though I do not support use of nuclear weapons. Fortunately, in Canada, there's very strict regulations surrounding nuclear materials).
Of course, I have nothing against being green. It is true that air pollution is bad for our health. While I've never seen smog, I'm sure that really large metropolitian centers may have those kinds of problems. Acid rain again, I've never seen, but I've heard of its affects and know that it exists. I'm all for going 'green' but my number one concern is the economy, particularily in my province of Sask. You see, saskatchewan depends HEAVILY on its resources as a large part of its economy. Restrictions, etc could be fatal for our economy, which is one of the fastest growing in Canada (We skipped out the recession here). As well, converting to cleaner energy sources would be very difficult, since the majority of our powerplants are coal, and we do not have very good sources for hydro power. A nuclear powerplant is being considered, but public support is only sublime. Solar is possible, since we get some of the most sun in Canada, but as usual, it leaves the problems with nowhere to put plants (since most of the south is farm land and the north is desolate, forested, roadless, and gets less sunlight). Of course, there's always costs. All of our current powerplants distribute power through sask energy, and rates do not need an increase!
I wasn't trying to defeat you. I don't debate with people whose arguments consist largely of "You can't prove that! Whoever told you that must have been an idiot!" You don't listen or consider other people's arguments at all because you're so convinced that you're right. That's childish.
Very well put. It is possible to win any argument based solely on asking the other person to prove it is/isn't true (or does/doesn't exist). Ever read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? There's a good mention of that scenario in that (great book BTW).
EDITED AFTER AN HOUR WITH MY FRIEND WIKIPEDIA//
Say, I'm sure that most (if not all) of you can agree that Google is the best company in the world, right? Well, I decided to look it up on Wikipedia and I'm impressed. However, the best part was this page on Google's hoaxes, particularily the famous April Fools jokes. I'm surprised how many there was. I'd seen a few, namely the Toilet Internet, the answer to life the universe and everything, Google Paper, and Google Autopilot (look up
here now! Funniest thing in ages).
Honestly, check out the lengthy list of Google's comedic hoaxes. Read the whole page (yeah, it's kinda long) as some of the best are near the middle and end. Trust me, this is
time well wasted!
