Good video.

I've used glary utilities for over a year, though I strongly recommend never to use one click care with any of these kind of programs. For example, cleaning your cache may every now and then improve performance (but only if it is bustling full) and can fix some problems with websites, but it will also force you to reload all websites from scratch, which will DRASTICALLY slow you down now. Caching is a web browser's greatest tool for speed. However, most browsers automatically do this quite well and can clear it whenever you want, and some (like Firefox) let you choose what you want to clear and for how long.

Removing temporary files is usually fine. Unless you happen to be using them.

Removing empty folders and duplicate items, while it sounds good, is generally very bad. That duplicate file could be your backup or another reference used by a program because the programers didn't use the same one, which could crash the program. While removing empty folders is generally safe since most programs recognize that the folder is non-existant and will recreate it, but then what's the point, and there's no guarentee that the program will be programmed to react to that missing folder.

@Ultifd, that link is expired, but thanks so much for that site. Never realized such a thing existed. Will definately have to check in there daily!

http://www.kent-hovind.com/

Kent Hovind is currently serving a 10 year prison sentence for tax evasion.  To supplement the hour-long seminar, please also read a review by a website devoted to keeping an eye on the slippery man (jeeze, doesn't Hovind believe he is being monitored by the government, if not God also?), from which I learned that the man claims that leap seconds indicate the angular velocity of the Earth is decreasing!  In all honesty, it is, but the leap second comes from the far more relevant accumulation error.

I personally think that anyone who watches this and has previous scientific knowledge will be embarrassed at Hovind's material.

Yes, John, he does present arguments, which is what we want.  The problem is that they are flawed, and do not point to a young earth.

I am sorry I cannot give a direct link to the review.  From the site I linked to at the top of my post, at the top of that page, it says "Seminar Review - Age of the Earth".  This is that YouTube video Eliminator posted (very clever, he he) ;D.

I read the article, and I'm not very impressed.  It dismisses a lot of his arguments but for most of them it doesn't explain why.  On the few that it does go into explanation, it blatantly misrepresents his arguments "straw man"-style.  Then it blames him for making points they consider irrelevant, while pointing out slavery which is far more irrelevant to the argument.  Overall, nothing special.

Kent Hovind has some very good arguments and I've always enjoyed watching his various videos. He presents his information very well, and keeps in entertaining and interesting.
Yes, unfortunately he also has some ideas related to paying taxes that were in strong disagreement with US laws. It doesn't change any of the material he presents, however. Like anything - creation, evolution, mail-in-rebates - examine it carefully and make your own judgments.

I'm talking about his motives and his character, here, not his arguments.

John, would you give us an example of the worst form of misrepresentation the article gives?  I'll probably agree that it is misrepresentation, but why not for the heck of it?  I'll at least clear things up.

That reminds me.  Hectate, did you choose your name because "Heck Tate" is the sherriff in Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird?

At 1:20 on this video, which is a continuation of the seminar, Hovind claims that you cannot fuse past iron.

This is a false claim.  Hovind taught science for 15 years.  I am disappointed.  Anyways, you can fuse past iron.  The nuclear fusion in the sun does fuse past iron, but it requires more energy than it gives off.  This is why stars die: all of their light elements are used up.

Does anyone dispute me?

Nope, it's actually derivative of Hecate (patron of witches and goddess of the underworld in Greek (?) mythology). I was in 11th grade when I started paying for broadband internet access (mom and dad were fine with dialup, arg!) and I needed a name to use. I grabbed the nearest book, opened it to a random page, stuck my finger down and then looked for the closest name to where my finger was.
The book ended up being my literature textbook, the page was an excerpt from Macbeth, and the name I misread and thought it was Hectate.

The two questions I get asked most often for my name is 1. Are you a girl? (from being a goddess' name) and 2. is it from To Kill A Mockingbird?

Like I said, he's got some great videos - but I neither know him nor will I argue with a federal court's conviction for tax evasion.

I'll give you that.  He is a gifted public speaker.

This of course has no merit on the veracity of Hovind's arguments.

Who knows?

Yes, but in the USA there is no law saying you need to pay income tax.

Let me describe it this way; if income taxes were optional, than it would be widely known and taken advantage of.
Perhaps what you heard was that there's nothing in the Constitution about income tax. Unfortunately we are now saddled with many other laws - not all which are necessary. As to which are not needed, that is another discussion altogether.

Constitutional or not, the government will always find a way to get the money it wants.  You can say "Hey, that's illegal!  You can't take my money!", and guess what's gonna happen.  They'll take your money anyway, and you'll be on government-sponsored vacation for a few years.

We'll just see if McCain dies before Obama's first term is up.

Arch and Eliminator!  Kent Hovind presented an argument, I posted an objection, and you guys are sitting by and questioning whether Hovind should really be in jail or not!  Defend Hovind, or retract your argument.

BTW, if Hovind is wrong about the chemical evolution to heavier elements, it brings serious doubts to the veracity of Hovind's other arguments.

I don't bother to argue with you, becau :-\se you seem to have a way of dragging arguments into complex discussions, and I just want to discuss the core of Evolution, the theory, how the hell it works!

Not get all complicated.

You see, no matter how much "evidence" you have of evolution, if the theory doesn't work then evolution is toast, oh but you don't want that, because I know(probably you too) that I would find serious problems with the theory.

I consider myself a bit of a strategist, which means I don't want to dilly-dally, I want to plan and strike, 'sorta-speak'.
You can debate this guys arguments, I will probably take a look at his arguments sometime soon, but yah, I'd like to debate the core, not what another guy thinks.
