WOW! That's great! I'll download it soon, cause you know how my internet is. Nice to see you supporting 7zip.
If I recall correctly, you shunned it in the past really harshly:
thanks ! I hope nobody will ever support this damned proprietarry 7zip.( sorry for the hard words, I'm drunk)

Mind telling how big the download is? (MB)

PS: If you don't mind, the herbs seem a little odd in a winter tileset...

it's 4 MB( I updated the first post now)

Yes, 7zip is really ok,( I was wrong  :-[ )!

And for the herbes, its a beta, but I will try it with the herbes first, try it and tell me if it is too strange.
I still have problems with the water which really doesn't look good yet.
( I did all this in only 3 hours yesterday )

by the way:
I still need more photos to create good looking bushes. Photos of snowy branches with a dark background so I can easily cut out the  branches. The best way to do this is with a flashlight in the night with the black sky as background.
Every simple digital camera should do the trick.

Most of my textures here are based on photos.
( I upload all my photos to www.burningwell.org and I'm the one who is responsible for the textures section there )

3 HOURS?!? Nice...

IDEAS FOR FINAL:
~Bushes instead of herbs, great snow, but looks a bit neo-wintery
~Soften the snow, it looks kinda 'hard'

And most importantly...
~Add a SNOWMAN! LOL. Ok, I'm just kidding, but that's be cool, having sword fights with snowmen!  ;D ROFL!

Very impressive work Titi!

I will try it with the bushes. For the snow: I have two kinds of snow: soft one and hard one. Like the grass ground texture. One light soft one and a darker version with some stones in it.
But I see some problems with the road bitmaps on the screenshot.

Oh, yeah. The way the road has a slight bit near the bottom were it doesn't tile completely. However, it is very good tiling. How do you do your tiling anyway???

I updated to beta2: http://www.titusgames.de/winter_beta2.7z (~4MB)

For the tiling:
I use gimp to create one tilable seamless tile ( sometimes manually improved ).
Then I use this base tile and modify it(manually) but not on the borders. By  this I get different tilable tiles.

I like the new trees in your tileset.  However, since (tons of people may hate me for this) I usually only play on Evergreen, Forest, and Winter Forest, I will combine the features I like from this one into Winter Forest.

Wow, it does look great.

@Modman, I kind of agree in a way. I rarely play Dark Forest because the night is so darl I can't even see the ground, yet I don't have the heart to change the XML. Winter is actually one of my favorite since I play as Magic most of the time and the tileset seems to just click. Same for evergreen. (BTW: I've killed ultra tech at least 5 times now with magic, do you still think they're unbalanced?)

I have one problem with this tileset, the characters are not really readable any more ( ressource numbers ... )
Of course you can change the character color with the 'c' key, but there are only light colors wich are all not very good readable :(.
But nevertheless red or green are better than white or light grey.
Can the default character color be set in the xml for a tileset?

Not that I'm aware. With a GUI lib you should be able to add in a background image. So you will always be able to see the text no matter the tileset.

Would this be possible?

Design a new custom object which adds a snow feature to the square where its set at? The example where the custom object can be used might be on the highest points of hills and mountains on the Forest/Evergreen tileset. The map will look like snowy mountain peaks with green grass valleys in early spring.

Crazy and not possible  :P  or could this work ???

Well I think this should work.
But the mapmaker must set this snow there and the map will look very strange in the other tilesets.
But thats generally a good idea because the current custom surface is  not used and not really setup in the  current tilesets.

You gave me an idea! I must think a bit more about this:
Cliffs with the current glest engine:

Hey, I have an idea for the 'herb'. Just a simple lump of snow. Heh... (or a snowman LOL)

Titi is pretty much the undisputed king of Mods (mod megapack) and tilesets (tropical, evergreen, autumn, winter2, etc;)

Concerning cliffs, the only problem is that the textures get stretched. This can be minimized by not having the cliff go from highest point to lowest point in one cell. Instead, have it take a few cells to go from high to low.

@trappin- It probably WOULDN'T work because the object would be flat (horizontal) so it would be screwed up on slopes. What I think you mean (and what Titi definately means) is to just have one surface as snow and another (such as custom 5) as the surface which is grass. This would work very well, but the maps wouldn't look good in other tilesets because the custom 5 texture is very vague...

There should be a way to change resource backgrounds though. It is hard to see if the camera angle is bad. (hover over a blacked out area such as a fog of war area and you can see but thats not suitable most of the time).
