GLest Association of Developement Enthusiasts
« on: 1 February 2009, 12:25:35 »
I want to start an group to improve Glest. The GLest Association of Developement Enthusiasts or Glade, will focus on one faction to add to magitech and of ways to improve the existing factions official or otherwise. This group could also include The GAE team but that is for the leader to decide.
So is this a good idea, and who's joining?

Love the idea!  I will volunteer to be the leader of the Glade Team!

I have tons of ideas on fixing up Magitech, and I've already started to design a long-term Tech and Magic extended diagrams.  Magic is obviously harder to keep neat and strict than Tech is.

It would be nice to get our own board like GAE did.

You seem to want to much authority modman, not to sound rude, but I don't think you would make a good leader, you only have influence around here because we're compassionate. We need someone like Daniel or Hailstone.
Now, I would volunteer myself only i don't like to be a leader, in fact I hate it, I'd like someone else to have to do the choices.

I got some ideas for magitech too:
These are only units, i got billions of ideas for upgrades too.
Magic:
Satyr - Goat-man armed with a lance
Orc - a morph from deamon
Del-dar - A creatures created by me. I've observed that the magic faction lacks a proper siege unit, sure it has the Behemoth but Tech has the Battle-Machine and the Catapult. Magic needs a real siege unit. So the Del-dar will be a siege unit, it will look like a rhino with white skin.(names are open)
Dread Lord - These guys train units and have a massive attack. They attack with a huge sword and have a secondary attack that has a area effect. What units this unit trains is still left to decide.
Manticore - a creature from greek mythology who shoots arrows.
Shade - A creature who sucks souls from enemies. Has a special attack that kills instantly.
Cerberus - A three-headed dog with a menacing melee attack and a special long range attack in which it barks very loudly.

Tech:
Mechanon - A robot who can transform into a versatile vehicle.
Crossbow man - self explanatory.
Pike-man - ""
Knight - Morph from Horse man.
Saker - a medium sized cannon.
Fortifide Tower - A morph from Defense Tower equipped with a might cannon.

That and a lot more.
Still have to think of ways of training the units and new buildings.

I made a Logo for Glade.

But we already have this community of glest enthusiasts!
That's the glest board community! We have a wiki and a forum, the only thing that is missing is a website.
Ok, we have no clear leader yet,but that's all.
If we want to change something we should have leaders for different technically aspects.
For example like this:
- For the sourcecode its currently daniel
- for the factions indians/norsemen its me
- for Nihilirian its nihilirian( or someone else who continues it )
- for the board its kukac
- for blender export script its me
- someone for the website ( we still have no website, so this job is currently vacant )
and so on.....

Above all this structure there could be our leader.
This should be a person who has basic knowledge about all aspects, but must not have detailed knowledge of all this.
He must be the manager with human skills who holds together all this  ;D (hailstone?)

My dreams for the future:
Hopefully GAE is our future if we once get a stable (multiplayer ready) version which daniel is working on.
I thought about a big release of GAE then, including all data which is ready to play.
A bit like my megapack but with binaries included and windows/linux installer!

( and for everyone: please stop this detailed firework of "good" new faction ideas in every thread here on the board! )

Yes there have been way to many 'talking shop' posts lately. I don't care if people want to do this but it creeps into all the threads regardless of original topics. Stay on topic or create a new thread, do not hijack topics.

Yes. Although I just can't help but think that this group would be unneccessary with the 'community faction' thing in the modws board. Are they not the same?

*Keypoint: any thing made for glest must be compatible with regular glest too, not just GAE. So if daniel or Hailstone were to lead such a team, that could be an important thing to bear in mind.

I will volunteer to do this, but only after the GAE website has been finished. Despite the fact that I have been extreemly busy(with people who are actually paying me to make their website and life in general), I made a promise that I would create Daniel's website and I intend to keep it. This Glade thing sounds pretty cool though. I want in.

The purpose of this association is to collaborate on one thing at a time. We will work on improving the current factions(including magitech) and some one said something about stories, Johndh would you like to try your hand at this?

I'm not that great at working with other people's ideas -- That is to say, I'm better at coming up with a story all my own than taking someone else's creation and putting a story to it -- but I can give it a shot.

I'm like John. I'm a great writer, but I draw a blank at Magitech.

We need a sort of G3D making team with a section for modeling, another for texturing, and another for animating.

Doesn't it already have a story?

That could be a good idea, since some people are only good at one thing and are hopeless at the others.

It sure does, but I think people want more of a current "what's happening now?" story, rather than a "how did we get here?" one, which is kinda what we have now.

I'm in all those categories but I'll do the modeling for Buildings and animation for all units, I'll also try to enhance some texture but I'll do buildings myself.
Anybody else?
