Community-created Story Mode

Instead of a community faction, how about a community-created story?  Backstory + maps, campaigns for different factions, alliances and characters.  That would be way, way, way more interesting than yet another faceless faction.

Shure, but a story which is not IN the game is very useless in my opinion ( something on a website for example ).
The reason why we dont have something like this yet is the fact that its not possible yet!
The only thing we have is a beta with lua script focussing on one match!
Thats not what is needed for a storyline.

The minimum requirement would be for example passwords for the next scenario.
With this you can setup a storyline and later probabaly more things like cutscenes or an evolution map and so on.
But all this is tecnically simply not possible yet.
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

The GAE guys are looking for input and reasons to develop new features.  If you provide the material, storyline mode will get implemented it's probably a lot easier than, say, the networking code that Daniel just did.  However if there is no effort to create a storyline and associated resources, there'll be no incentive to code it.

It takes time to create story and story-related artwork.  If you wait for the code, it won't happen.  This is definitely a case of creating the content to drive the code and not the other way around.

From the developers, all that is required is:
- to link a set of levels
- a way to display story text and images inbetween levels
- a way to save progress (level passwords maybe?)

That is a lot less effort to code than it is create than a cohesive, well narrated story, balanced maps, and polished units.

Additional features:
- way to display dialog when playing, will come with lua scripting, surely
- improved AI? can wait as will come with time anyway
