Its very interisting to follow this discussion and shows me that I might be not completly wrong with what I did.
Currently its probabaly a bit too big, but I also think it shoul be a big unit.

I found some time to create a black spearfighter and a egypt spearthrower.
Everything is full animated.

I like this mod so far it seems to be coming along quite nicely.
I'm surprised that there hasn't been a mention of Nile crocodiles.
or Sobek, the crocodile God. he's basically a mummy with a crocodile head.

in fact, nile crocodiles kill more humans than any other wild predator in the world.

haha, I know you guys prob. have the mod essentially figured out, but ideas don't hurt. usually.

No, currently these are two different units. The black spearfighter  is something similar to the tech swordman and the other one is something like an archer( range unit).

well,.... no GLADE work yet, but next time....

Here is a first screenshot of the new pharao. He still needs some texture improvement and all kind of animation and so on.
Its really only a first shot! It looks ok, but does it look egypt enough??

Nice.  Are they going to be somehow restricted in the number of pharaohs they can have, or is it just a normal unit?  If it's just a normal (albeit powerful) unit, then maybe he should just be a priest or something.  It looks good, but his clothes might look better if they were more ornate.

White clothes was something very special and only very rich people could effort them.
So I think pharaos often wear white clothes.

Yeah, make the pharaoh a little more detailed, because 1. it would look cool, 2. in those days he was teh richest man, and 3. he has to stand out a bit!

NO the sign of royalty was purple clothing, because purple dye was the most expensive available.

I thought this purple thing was in medieval europe later on?
Or was it also a known color in ancient egypt?

Update:
All info I can found is about something called lapis lazuli a blue color ( used to color luxury things, not clothes )
and green malachit crashed to powder to color the womans eyes. But I cannot find anything about purple.

Update2:
OK, I found something. The phoenicians are the ones who discover how to make the purple color from snails.
They lived side by side with the ancient egypts in the eastern mediterranean region. So I think purple was known.
Nevertheless I'm still not shure if I will use it :)

Since we don't necessarily know what the egyptians wore, other than what is shown in hieroglyphics, i see it as a matter of what fits our minds idea of an egyptian pharaoh.  Some people, when asked to mention the first thing that comes to mind about egyptian pharaohs would be a unit in a game, or in some movie.  I, personally, have never seen a pharaoh that wore purple dyed clothes, (only noblewomen)in a game or a movie.  I think that the pharaoh looks good in white, and since i don't know for sure what colors they really wore, i think what you have is fine.  However, if it were to wear purple, here's what i think it should look like.

white is good, but i guess he shouldn't wear anything on top, he should bare chested with a large necklace, like in the picture above.

My design was inspirated by the following picture. It shows an egypt god called horus or the pharao as horus. I thought it was a picture of the pharao when I started to create my model. So I might be a bit wrong here to model the pharao like I did, but as it turned out, it was not completly wrong and the pharao representing the war god horus might be a good choice fo the glest game.

Why? I haven't tried it, but I doubt you'll be able to see the reins in glest at that zoom level. Unless you make the reins so big that they look bad, it doesn't seem like a good idea...
