Just spotted this thread  ;) I think Gameboy's rocks should be added, they look really good.

It annoyed me, but I just shut the speakers off.  A solution would be to make the background a little quieter.

I'm not saying it wasn't fitting, it was just a little over the top...

@gAMeboy, best to just add them in and upload the entire thing. I'd rather not do it myself, since I would have to download the original, download your addition, and then upload, which would be a pain in the *** on my internet. It really only takes a minute to add it in, and then uploading probably won't take too long on high speed.

@Omega-Its kind of like the humming sound in the background of Labyrinth.  You didn't understand why it was a problem, but others didn't like it.  If its that big of a problem to me I just turn down the sound.  But I have to say i love the models and the textures are superb.

If you think you can improve the sound, go ahead. That's not my strong point... *heh* ;)

Yeah, sound should be improved, cause music is a big part of the game...too me anyway
and if background noise is too loud, then I can't hear music or hear the fighting or anything.

Music isn't neccessarily the best part of the game though. Have you seen the glest.110mb.com's questionaire results? If not, there's a question about sound, and you should go see the results.

I saw the results, and they seemingly support your position.  And I can see why you see music in such a dim light: you even admit to having inferior music skills to your other computing skills like modeling and website development.

Notice how I worded the above: I said the skills were inferior, meaning that they could still be great, but just not as good as the others.

I found some pages which supported my position:

It's a shame that somebody who is a big fan of both Final Fantasy and Halo as Omega apparently is, doesn't/can't appreciate the musical aspect of games more.  Those two series have some of the best soundtracks in the industry.  Square Enix even sells the FF soundtracks all by themselves for people to listen to without buying the games.

Hmm, the man is right...

Back on topic: I thought gameboy or someone was going to add the rocks that were created into this. Where's the new download?

This tileset is worthy of more attention. Omega, maybe replace some of the bone objects with something other than more bones/skeletons? Tweak the sounds a bit.

The large rock/cinder cone looks fine - same with the stone objects. Maybe work a bit more on one of the dead tree objects.

Solid tileset but with a bit more work it will be outstanding.

I'm not sure, but the last time I played this I couldn't stand how the tilesets sounds were blotting out the music and unit sounds.
Have you fixed that.

I think somebody already mentioned this, but there are just too many bones in that picture.  Adding some more variation in that regard would be nice.

Maps made specifically for this tileset will still look nice but generic maps designed using forest type tilesets will look quite bad. Athena's_Valley.gbm is a very cool forest map but looks like hell in Volcanic. And by "Hell" I mean hundreds of bone corpses scattered all over the map... Orion used hundreds of bushes and water objects when she designed the playfield.

surface_1e has an odd repetition on Magma.gbm so I revived the old volcanic_tileset and imported the new sound fx then "liberated" 4-bush and 5-water objects from other tileset authors. The private build looks okay and can be used when gaming on generic forest/evergreen maps.

It's not fair to needle Omega about this tileset - its done.

burnt shrubbery

tileset conventions dictate certain object types cannot be changed beyond shape, form, texture and walkable nature (true)/(false). We need bushes, shrubs and plants in the 4-bush and 5-water object slots or the tileset loses qualities of generic portability when viewed on maps designed with differing tilesets.

The old v1.0 volcanic_tileset surface_1e looks great - small and meduim sized pebbles - people complained about them but you were on the right track and just needed a couple more random tiles to choose from when generating the ground textures.

Athena's_Valley.gbm
Code: [Select]

Volcanic needs larger (bigger than the typical bush on forest tilesets) burnt-looking bushes otherwise the playfield is too barren - yes its a burnt and destroyed world but we need to populate the surface with objects or it looks incomplete.

Hmm, good point. I think I'll remove surface e, and if you'd send me the burnt shrubbery (but darker if possible), I'll use it. I never realized how Athena's valley looked here, since I only tested a few random maps, mostly the built in ones, since those are some that are better known and that everyone has. However, I don't know any alternatives. It needs to be a stone, but other than making it smaller (not sure if that even would help) what can be done?

Of course, this is a specialty tileset, so I guess we can't expect it to look perfect on every map...
