Saving Games?
« on: 17 April 2009, 13:14:43 »
Hey, I'm new to glest (I just downloaded/installed it today!), and one feature I noticed was missing was the ability to save your game. I looked around, and I found this:
http://eurion.net/glest/files/

I then downloaded the 'Glest_Hack_Save_Game-src03.zip' file, but I don't know what to do next.

I'm running ubuntu 8.10, and I installed glest 3.2.1 by downloading the .deb files from getdeb.net.

The GAE contains the save game feature.

Glest Advanced Engine (look here on the Forums)
Download ist at glest.codemonger.org and extract the files into your Glest-directory.
Than start one of the two exes it doesn't matter which one (they were made for better performance depending on your cpu, try which one of them works better for you)

Have Fun!

I believe its 'Z'. I can't be 100% certain, since I haven't had the opportunity to use GAE yet, due to OS problems, so I just know what I do by reading (a lot). I don't think that glest confirms that the save was successful in anyway (the same way taking a picture takes a picture and saves it, but doesn't tell you it did so).

Well, I installed GAE, but it doesn't seem to have done much, apart from make ??? appear either side of the button for 'Single Player' and 'Tutorial'.

I take I have most probably done something wrong, but what?

Here's what I did:

-uninstalled my current version of Glest
-Downloaded the latest ubuntu .debs from getdeb.net, and installed them
-Downloaded the 'glestadv-0.2.11-generic-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.tbz' file
-Extracted the contents to my '/usr/share/games/glest' , overwriting the 'english.lng',  files, and 'menu.xml' (And possible other) files
-Downloaded the 'glestadv-src-0.2.11.tbz2' file
-Extracted the 'source' file to /usr/share/games/glest/data' directory, overwriting the existing files
-Ran Glest from Applications > Games > Glest

And then I got that^

Anybody got any Ideas what went wrong, and what I can do to fix it?

Unless you're going to compile the source you don't need it. The binaries should be sufficient.

Most of the differences are when you start a game for the moment. For changes to the xml. Changes for 0.2.7. There are more changes then that but that's an example.

I think the question marks are due to the text not being in the language file.

Ok cause you have Ubuntu I'm not sure,
but in Windows you need to start the "glestadv.exe" insteat of "glest.exe".
Maybee you started the "normal" Glest ?!
