Noob Question, xml editting
« on: 20 April 2009, 21:26:47 »
Apologies in advance, i searched but could not find an answer to my question.

I am trying to edit some factions and try a simple mod. I am having trouble saving xml files after i edit them, the error i get states:

Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Glest_3.2.2\techs\newtechtitle\factions\newfaction\newfaction.xml file.

Make sure that the path and file name are correct.  (using notepad)

Also trying to save using wordpad, i get an access denied error when i try to  save. I have XML notepad 2007, i can open and edit with this and it allows me to save. Problem here is the changes i make with this program do not take effect.

Basically this is me trying to edit music played, starting resources, etc. I've made new folders and copied models, etc for the faction i am attepting to build. But right now i am lost as to what i am doing wrong.

If you're not the main (or only) user of your computer, then write-access to the directory might be restricted for your account.  That's the only thing I can think of.  You could try re-installing Glest into a different location and see if that helps.

Appreciate your guidance, googled write-access for my unholy OS (vista). Just had to disable the UAC and reboot. Thank you, i really do appreciate it.

The folder may also be read-only for some reason.  If so then just fix it in folder properties.

Oh wow, I was right?  Lucky guess.  I'm glad it worked, though.
