Alternating freeze/superspeed in Windows
« on: 9 May 2009, 01:28:24 »
Hi everyone, again!

On my desktop computer, even with the latest glest version, I'm having that classic "Game freezes, then goes very fast" (repeat) glitch. I think that the computer might have performance problems, which, unless anyone has any suggestions on how to fix them, I'm kind of stuck with.*
I've already tried lowering everything that I can in the Configuration (not glest.ini), but that hasn't helped either.

What info should I post again? Graphics card or something?
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

Sometimes the computer will bluescreen and show the nv4_disp error (which some of you may know about). I've already tried an "nv4_disp fix," apparently to no avail.

Comments? help?

*I may reformat eventually, but I have to wait till I get out of school and stuff, and I'm hoping for a less time-consuming and short-term solution.

No sorry. You could try GAE when Silnarm's pathfinding gets merged. It has speed improvement.

Geforce 5200 is a very old graphics card! If the computer ( and maybe the windows installation ) is of the same age, I think you may have trouble with defective hardware( because its so old ) or a corrupt windows installtion due to its lifetime.

What you can try is to install the latest driver for your graphics card ( its this one: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html) .

But often blue screens with nvidia drivers is something I don't really know! I think this is typical for defective hardware.
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios
