How do you make good textures? (faces clothing wood steel ...) ?

It all depends what program you are using. I use Photoshop, is the best one in my opinion, but is hard to learn.
You can also use real things, like, a photo of a real wood.

But some textures I just edited the colors and other stuff from the original.

I use the gimp put I can't make good faces with it.
And I use paint.net I still can't make good faces

BTW, I just made a topic in general discussion that is somewhat similar. It tells of a program I found that make SA-WEET tileable textures easily and with high customization!

For faces, you can use pictures of real people.  So far I've just been using the original Glest ones, though.

And I sometimes find some decent ones at http://commons.wikimedia.org

Also, if you want symbols and logos to put on your textures, you can try searching for it on http://www.deviantart.com, but you have to make sure to ask the people before using their work.

If all else fails and you can't find what you want online, grab your camera and find something that looks like it in real life. ;)
