sticky topics
« on: 12 August 2009, 09:38:56 »
There are these two vbros packs now, which I really want to make sticky for a while, but we already have too much stickied topics in my opinion.

Any ideas how we can reduce the amount of sticky topics?
Can some of the things be joined in one (probabaly new) topic?
Give me your ideas.

I'm going to be harsh. I'm going to put on my simon face (from idol) and give you my harsh opinion.

Some of these things... Need to go. Really, really need to go. If it doesn't really strike me as important, or is too old, just prune it!

I recommend removing the sticky on the following topics:
-Glest Blender Video (reason, can be inserted into modding overview)
-Glest Models Available for Download (reason, old, nobody uses 3dsmax, and easily found via google)
-Outlines available for all (reason, post-dated, replaced by glest guide, which has topic in general discussion)
-Free textures/sounds/models/knowledge (reason, can be merged with modding overview)
-Game Art Tutorials (reason, can be merged with modding overview)
-Glade Team Project Dark Magic (reason, unfinished mod, popular enough topic that it doesn't need to be stickied)

I think that Glest Blender videos, Models available for download, and art tutorials could all be combined, because they are all dealing with Blender/modeling.  Once you combine those, you might also want to combine the free textures/sounds/models knowledge topic into the previous three.  The resulting topic will be very informative.

Of course I don't want the Glade Team topic unstickied, but I think that once those four topics are combined you won't have to unsticky anything else.

Maybe whenever a new mod (or new version of it) gets released, it could be stickied for one week.  I don't think there's really a need to keep it up any longer than that, as long as the faction download center is kept current.

I like that idea.

I've been thinking that I'll keep the same topic for the Glade Team, just change the topic title and the initial post, as the Glade Team works on new projects over time.  So maybe, as long as development stays active (and I'm planning on learning modeling for the next project and am using Omega's tutorials) that topic could stay stickied. ;D

John.d.h....

GENIUS!

Also, mod packs should be stickied, but perhaps combined. The megapack and the 2 vbros packs can be in the same thread 'mod packs?'.

I agree though, as long as the faction download center is active, however, I propose 2 weeks for every mod released, AS LONG AS THERE IS NO MORE THAN SEVEN STICKIES AT A TIME!
