Animating in Blender, Model wont move.
« on: 12 August 2009, 13:09:12 »
yeah above says it pretty much, well.

ive made armatures, ive parented the mesh (my model) to the armature. ive then tried to make a animation by move some if the armature, then press i then move one frame move the next one, and then ive Ctrl-T'ed for triangels,Selected Object (cube/mesh/model) then i exported with the script directly to .g3d

But the model dont move. and i cant raelly see it move in blender either, ive read a lot in the From Noob to Pro Guide. and from http://glest.110mb.com/animation.php

and i had the model to move, but now i cant get it too.

So any help is apreciated.

PS. the model shows up fine in Glest.

the model must animate in blender.
If it doesn't it either
- has no animation
- or the start frame and end frame are set to the same number.

Do you have a download for your model so we can see whats the problem?

Please post a link to your .blend file.

This is the easiest way to see where you are going wrong.

I had a look at your model and there is no stored animation.

1. your animation has only 3 frames
2. there are only keys stored for 4 bones ( visible in "Action_Editor" ) but the start frame and the end frame have the same position for these bones.

One hint:
use x-ray to see your bones!
to switch x-ray on:
1.go to object mode
2.select the armature
3. in button window click on editing panel.
4. in armature tab(or window) switch on x-ray

The rigging and the bones are ok, but you have to store the animation again (the part with pressing the i button )
to do that:

1. select the skeleton in object mode
2. change to pose mode
3. go to first frame ( second window with timeline
3. select all bones( ctrl-a )
4. press i and select LocRotScale
this stores all positions for all bones, so you get a start position.
5. now go to frame 3 move one bone and press i again and say LocRotScale. This will store the position of this bone in frame 3.

There's also a "record" button on either the action window or the timeline (I'm not on my own computer, so I can't check at the moment) that you can set to automatically insert keyframes when you move the bones.  It's a lot more convenient that way, in my opinion anyway.

Oi, fast resolution and lots of posts for one day!

Well, I strongly recomend turning record on (if it isn't working for you, perhaps you may need to set it on in user defaults (set it on, and use ctrl + u), or perhaps you may need to select the objects first).

The record button is on the right side of the timeline window, and looks like a red dot ('record'). Set it to add/remove frames (or something like that).

Remember it affects both objects moved and armatures (probably plenty others too, but I didn't test). Note that edit mode naturally still affects the mesh, for all frames, without changing the position.

Congrats on your animation, just before I released a new tutorial (look for it in 2-4 days) about using blender (modeling, texturing, animating, and exporting, on the theme or guarenteed knowledge).

Might I ask why you are creating a marine model? The military mod (currently still in developement) features a very nice fully animated marine model.

Glad to know you liked it.

OT:
I really got to get some advertisements up into this. If I could somehow get the site to generate enough renevue to get a REAL host, then I could offer other services. This free host is a pain in the arse, and is very limited. It also forces a ad-script that takes up some 20+kb and also will redirect all errors rather than the nice helpful search I would like :'( to impliment.

I have an adbrite acount, I just am too lazy to get this done. Mawahaha. Gotta get off my A** and do some work I guess. ;)
