Glest Community Awards
« on: 19 August 2009, 19:56:23 »
Alright, so the meaning of this is to award people in the glest community for their involvement. It will be done monthly, and a user must have a minimum of 200 posts to be legible.

As well, they must have been online within the last month to be legible for voting.

So, here's the list of people with at least 200 posts:
Omega *
Modman *
Martino
Titi *
Hailstone *
Daniel.Santos *
@kukac@ *
John.d.h *
Archmage101 *
Gameboy *
Wciow *
Enveloop
ZaggyDad
Tucho
Mictes *
Speedator
Firedeathbot
Orion
Josepzin
Silnarm *
Eliminator *
Verarticus *
Madelf *
Weedkiller
Idawin *
Strikershot21

The asterix (*) means that they have been active within the last month.

NEXT VOTING: First week of October for the September awards.

PAST WINNERS:

August 09 - Silnarm

You didn't really say what the people are being awarded for, but this is a good idea.

What are they being recognized for?  Making mods, posts, being helpful, being most influential to Glest, or what?

Man I wish I could vote more than once, because I voted for Eliminator because he has made a lot of good mods, he's now helping me on the Roman faction even though the rest of the community didn't support me, so far he's made some really high-quality models...

Silnarm I'm sorry, but I definitely think you're #2 cause you have made a ton of contributions to GAE, and you created the GAM, all for the Glest community, and whenever someone had a problem you answered with a solution and kind words...

I think many people on that list deserve an award....whatever that award is........ :)

Good idea. I could add a mention of the recipient in the GCD monthly newsletter.

Maybe there could be a little icon below the winner's avatar which indicates they've won the award.  And if they win multiple times, the number of times should be listed beneath that icon.

Please vote on who you think is best suited for the 'Glest Community Award' of the August 2009.
If they have to have been active in the last month, then what is the point of the asterisk?  I don't know, I am just a little bit unhappy about how I'm not in the running.  No offense to some, but the short 1 sentence posts shouldn't really count.  I know that some people who are reading this right now are nodding their heads in agreement.  So maybe you should lower it to 75, because people with that many who are modding really deserve to at least have a chance.  And maybe elaborate on what the award is, because there could be separate awards and with them separate award winners.

Nonetheless, I (Obviously really) voted for Silnarm.  Though Eliminator has made 5+ mods so far (And I am not trying to belittle that) Silnarm has been arguably the best thing to happen to Glest.

As of this instant (I opened a new tab to check) there are 4 votes for Silnarm (Including mine).

If I could vote multiple times, I would vote for all the GAE team and for titi and Eliminator.

Lets face it mods are good but Silnarm's stuff is making the game beater (There are more moders then there are coders (and I don't know much of C++, C# or C.) So well done Silnarm I think you will win :).

Haven't really been around long enough to feel I can vote with confidence but a few people already stand out.

Silnarm obviously deserves a lifetime achievement award with his GAE work, plus has been quite helpful with my posts on here.

Omega has been very friendly and helpful.

Titi deserves a mention as his Megapack4 is the only Mod I've really bothered with so far and it definitely improves and expands the game.

But as this is a monthly thing it kinda needs to be based over the last month's actions and on that I don't feel I can comment.

PS a few of you have mentioned ElimiNator's Mods. Has anyone got a link? Checked his home page, as linked from his profile, but can't see anything relating to Glest there...

I'm voting for Silnarm mostly because he implemented something that the Glest community has wanted for a really long time: water travel!  I think the possible ramifications of this are huge.

Every good award is exactly the same thing. All the meaningful awards in life are not money, tropheys, or any physical object. The ultimate award is recogonization. You see, the ability to be known and recogonized for what you've done all your life is a great thing. So in short, the prize is just the honor of knowing people appreciate what you've done for the community.

Which is why I've voted for Silnarm. Silnarm has done so much in a reasonably short time. No one made him come here and help us, yet he dedicated his time to help us, and that's why I think he is worthy of this award. Of course, it is a very hard choice, since there is plenty of great people, such as eliminator for all his mods, hailstone for his hard work on the GAE engine (maybe next month?), and plenty of others. Of course, I can't let you guys vote for multiple people, or it may end up as a tie. Of course, you can always vote for your next favorite person next month!

Voting lasts 1 week, from the posting time, so it closed august 27 GMT (ironically the first day of school for me). This will happen monthly, sometime every third week of the month. I'll edit the first post and change the poll. The past winners will be recognized in the first post and on glest.110mb.com (or the Glest Guide).

Because it is done summing up the entire month. It is not for the last month, but for the current month.

Yes modman, it would be cool, but we'd need an admin to do it. Dunno about you, but I haven't seen one for a while.

Perhaps voting could be the first week of the next month? So voting for the August award would be in the first week of September. Then 3 or 4 days pass and I add a mention about the winner in GCD on the 11th. This way you would be voting on the full 4ish weeks rather than 3 and there is no confusion if something significant happens during that week of voting.

Well, Eliminator gets my vote.  I haven't even had a chance to try much of it yet, but if we are talking about the last month, he has indeed been prolific!

I'll feel a little bad should I win to be honest, if anyone in the comunity deserves recognition, it's got to be titi, but if I'm basing my vote on the last month, it's got to be Eliminator.

Then 3 or 4 days pass and I add a mention about the winner in GCD on the 11th.

It might actually be better to start voting after the GCD Monthly, then it could be used as a very handy reference, for voters, as to what has been acheived, and the winner can be 'edited in' a week later.

Yes, the ideas just posted were good ones.  I was going to make a topic similar to this on September 2, one with several categories, but I won't anymore.  Except I am still upset as to why it was made with 1 1/2 weeks left of August.

i think this is a little akward, i think alot of people are doing alot of stuff here, and here im refering mainly to the coders, (that i know of) Daniel.santos,Silnarm,Hailstone, Daniel is working on netcode, wich is awsome imo, i havent seen much of silarns work, ive defently seen his GAM beta wich also is awsome, but a little out of my reach since i like doing it oldschool :D, (manually), it makes me feel im better in touch with what im doing. Hailstone ive not seen much of but it my uhm...how to say this, i cant explain this, but i know hailstone is there "creeping" in the forums and being helpfull and in touch with the community. i think these 3 would be the candidates for me, but in relation to the community there is alot more people, for me what glest needs most right now is the network code, for multiplatform.

so Conclusion, i will vote blank, because i cant vote for more than one, and this would be unfair in a sense. also because Glest Community Awards is such a wide thing, im not really sure what im voteing for. anyways, i vote for ALL of glest wich works together on this magnificent projeckt learning, and expanding glest :D. Hmm, ok, voting will be at the end of the month after this one. So september's voting will be on Oct 1 (or around then).

While I understand completely how many people deserve votes, that's not the point of this. The way I see it, EVERY NAME UP THERE DESERVES A VOTE, and many not up there. There's dozens of people who have done tons for this community.

Silnarm: Merged GAE and Glest, did the path finder, number of other GAE coding, GAM
Hailstone: Merged GAE and Glest, doing the GUI, number of other GAE coding
Daniel.Santos: Did LOTS of GAE work in the past, was the core of the coding
Elimnator: Tons of mods
Modman: DM and various help on the forums
Titi: Mod Megapack and titusgames.de
Omega: GG, Military, and various smaller projects
Mark: Help with DM and various help on the forums
Archmage: various smaller projects
Wciow: The dwarfs
John.d.h: GLADE team leader, sun & moon
Gameboy: Elves
Madelf: insane graphics and the tileset

And numerous others that I can't type up in one message.

I think that you could get an award, gAMeboy, for being on 0 A.D. (really cool game) and helping with Glest.  And besides your Elf faction is sweet.  (BTW I didn't vote for you I voted for Silnarm.)
