well. tbh, it isnt too hard,it all depends on what you want to do, square building fx are alot easiyer to do then advanced creatures, my best advice would be for you to practice and real/wiew tut's, the glest guide, covers most of the aspect of moddling to glest, but practice is your best friend here really.. :D

There's a good tutorial out there called "Blender: Noob to Pro".  Just Google that and you'll be on your way.

Actually I thought it did, because I used it. Unfortunately the texturing section is very basic and limited. The following is a link to what really helped me learn. It's linked to under blender.org's site so it's semi-official and recognized. It helped me a lot.

One note, it does tell you to do a LSCM Unwrap. Don't worry that your latest version of blender doesn't have that as an option. Currently the "Unwrap" option is a LSCM by default. The other options under the UV menu's are different kinds for other occasions. Feel free to experiment, just keep a backup file saved.
Also, remember that it will only unwrap the selected faces, in case you want to unwrap different faces using different algorithms or something. It can be useful in certain circumstances. Let me know if you have more issues and I'll see what I can do to help.

Yea, if you get the UV map down, from there it's all art. It takes some skill to account for all the different angles the various poly's will be at and so forth, but it's still artwork and THAT isn't easy. I'm much better at technical than creative.
