Glest 3.2.1 audio randomly goes choppy
« on: 15 September 2009, 21:02:25 »
I guess I must be using an older version of Glest.. but I'll report / ask about this anyway. The sound in Glest randomly goes choppy and units don't speak, it skips and  generally doesn't work very well, then for no reason at all, it will start working perfectly, with music and unit speech. The game, the video I mean, doesn't seem to suffer this slow down. The amount of units on the screen for example doesn't seem to cause this skipping audio and the unit response time isn't slow. It just happens randomly, sometimes even on the menu.

I sometimes get choppy audio in the beginning of loading the Glest menu, but after that it works fine, so I don't worry about it, but if it's happening in game then I would suggest doing things, to make the game run easier.

I think it only happens for the first few minutes. I haven't played very long games, but it seems to fix itself after a while. It's strange though, I get the same problem in other games. In SuperTuxKart for example, the audio is always choppy until the race starts, and then it works fine. Wonder if it's an Ubuntu problem.

It's probably a faulty sound sytem because my sound system is old and it just started getting choppy recently.
