Crashing!
« on: 30 September 2009, 02:37:32 »
i got the newest version of GAE and it constantly crashes!  If i click the maximize button (which is greyed out) it crashes, if i press "options" it crashes, and sometimes it will crash for no reason!  if you are wondering, i am on an XP, any ideas on how to fix it?

Please use specifics. So rather than saying "newest version" say something like 0.2.12a or the revision number (and either the branch, trunk or tag) if you got it from SVN.

If you want fullscreen, change DisplayWindowed=true in glestadv.ini to DisplayWindowed=false

Perhaps the other issues will be sorted out in a later version.

Well thank you, I'm glad you like it. :)  Seriously though, if you can check and see if there's a crash log, it would really be helpful.  And also, what is the *exact* error message that you get?  By exact, I mean that if you get some pop-up box that says something vague, but has a "more information" button, you click it and find out as much information as possible.  This includes any long hexadecimal numbers (addresses), etc.  What were you doing when it crashed?  Is there a pattern? (e.g, every time you tell your xyz unit to build an abc, it crashes.)  These are the things that help us track down the cause of such bugs.

it says this:
=======================
Crash
Version: Advanced Engine v0.2.12
Time: Wed Sep 30 14:36:00 2009
Description: Access violation (Reading address 0x0C01E0E4)
Address: 0058A7F7

=======================

also, it just crashes randomly, it is unprovoked

bah! We forgot to update the version string before we released 0.2.12a, it still says "0.2.12" :(

Thanks for posting this.

For now, keep testing GAE every now and then to see if you get any more error messages. When you want to have a good long game of Glest, just use plain Glest not GAE, nothing, except the mods you want to play!
